This site is maintained by our own member "FishBait", and he has done a wonderful job. Thanks Valmy and a big Thanks to you Fishbait, for putting such a wonderful memorial to Magnus Morck for his and these classic historic, models. he has designed and given freely to the world, and to whom the final and greatest Thanks must be given!
Here is a Commodore Perry I finished a couple weeks ago from this download collection. (Stern view although the prototype was double ended and had duplicate end fittings.)
That is magnificent. It would sure be nice to see some more pics of that ship. It came out beautiful!! Very impressive!!
Here's a shot of the bow showing the torpedo spar.
High view from the bow showing most of the flotsam and jetsam from the kit parts.
Almost pure paper. Most is Canon matt photo paper. Some letter weight, some tissue run through the printer (flags) and some tablet backs. The four masts, the torpedo spar and the queen posts are brass rod or modified tooth picks. Rigging is Lycra thread and 0.004" stainless steel wire. Weathering is pure pigment worked into the surfaces dry or mixed and used as alcohol washes.
And, yes there are some model technique things I will change on future civil war boats and ships. The two that jump out to me are the ship's ladders and the various windows, ports and doors. But, this time I tried to go with the kit paper except where I started gnashing my teeth.
EDIT: This is a bit too much information for the free models thread, but I'm such a rebel! I really like these models.
Real cool to show a model of this website. The result and what the result !:thumb:, the accuracy are very good.
Many thanks for your post. It's a tribute for the designer, Magnus Mörck, unfortunatly died (RIP for him), and the quality of his design.
That sound you heard was my jaw hitting the floor. I think Mr. Morck is pleased, seeing this legacy of his giving so many pleasure. This is a magnificent build. Of this particular vessel, the best I have seen. If I could make it model of the month I would!!
Oh no! Now another kind of model I have to build What a great job! Love the attention to detail.
This forum's focus is FREE models, so there's never too much info. I suggest to people they always post the link where they got the model from. You would be surprised by how many people don't know and appreciate the info.
It's also great to keep this subject alive too, not the tension, but the memory...it was a high price they paid, one that can never be paid back.
Sure. These three are my faves. I have much higher res versions if needed. I do have photos at angles that show parts of the model that aren't made so well. But raging lions won't make me post those!
Thanks everyone for your kind comments.
