    Doug, have you tried wrapping the tube in either cardstock, 0.010" styrene sheet, or 0.005" brass sheet? Plastruct is quite cheap for 0.010" styrene (10 sheets for around $0.50 per sheet). Another option might be aluminum foil.

  2. One more option for silos or storage tanks would be PVC pipe from the hardware store or Home Depot. You can get the pipe and end caps to the pipe that can look good for a propane tank and that is cheap.

    Depending on what type of silo you build,I have took strips of tape & wrap around the tube horizontaly & stagger the vertical seams. When this is painted & weathered with ink/alcohol solution it gives the effect of sheet metal with welded seams. I have also used paper tubes wrapped with scored veneer wood to make wood water tanks.I like the paper tubes because most glues adhere to it.
