Hello, Could someone advise me of the bulb size (number)for a Lionel 022 switch. This is the one that goes under the lantern. The current bulb in them is a 1815 14v which seems rather high and the lantern cap gets real hot. If they are correct I will leave it alone.

    Thanks for the advice,

I have changed my over to 18 volt blubs. If you can find 24 volt ones, use them instead. I have also drilled the top vent hole out to 1/4" dia to let some of the heat out.

The higher voltage blubs will last longer and have less heat. They will not be as bright, but if you don't tell anyone, they won't notice the diffance.

You can also replace them with plug in LEDs which will have very low heat and last for 1000's of hours They run about $5.00 each.

Thanks Tom, I think the LED option sounds like the best longterm answer.
