Benchwork and Clearance ???????

Hi All,
The pic below shows the design for the benchwork that will have the hidden staging yard on the new layout. It's not to scale but hope you get the idea. I have a problem with my scanner and I did this with Paint.
The front of the staging will not have a fasica board to allow for access. Do you think that 7" to 9.5" or 9" to 11.5" between the risers are enough? The reach is 12" max. This is HO scale.

?? Space required = height of track and roadbed + height of tallest car + thickness of forearm + safety margin??

Marty - How about making a full-size mockup, out of cardboard or something, and doing a "test-fit" on you and anyone else likely to be trying to access the various areas?

Hi Marty, My clearance is 6", and it's plenty of room to get into.
