I think he's talking about the pink or blue building material, used a lot for layout surface, scenery construction, etc. Not sure how you could bend it into a smoooth curve.
 
Hi Matt,
Technically, I think it's polystyrene foam but it's just styrofoam (the white stuff). The insulation board is the same chemically but finer grained. You can get this material in thicknesses from 1/4" to 6", if you can find a source. Look for "Packaging Materials" in your yellow pages. It is not very flexible but the 1/4" might handle the corner radius, not sure. Just a thought, since you are concerned about weight and portability.
