Does anyone know where i can get a copy of these? Do any of you have instructions for one or more of these locos that you would be willing to scan and e-mail them to me? Or a place on the internet where i can find them?

I need to get handrails for the locos and Athearn does not specify in there parts list on there web site which ones to use for these locos and my locos did not come with instructions. The only ones i saw on Athearns web site under there parts were the SD50 plastic handrails. I need handrails for all of them and i want them to be the plastic ones if possible, i dont like the metal ones. Im looking for the instructions for these locos because usually they specify the handrails that they use....

These were all RTR models that i got on e-bay a little while ago that did not come with handrails so im looking to get a set for each to finish them off.

Any help would be great  and thanks in advace

You mean you couldn't take 5 minutes to search for it under the parts section of Horizon (current owners of Athearn)?

    CSX SD50 handrails-

You're out of luck for the other handrails though. none of the rest of them are instock... but i do have another sugguestion for you.

remember this part number for walthers- Smokey Valley

    676-135 Handrail Stanchions -- SD60

They are brass handrails, they are relatively inexpensive, and they look great. You just need to bend some of your own wire, which is so easy that i was shocked myself when i had to make some for my C32-8.

Didnt find anything for you SD70s though. I do have the instruction manual for the SD70/SD70M/SD75 models, but i've already checked for them to see if they are in stock anywhere that i know sells the parts, and i didn't find anything.

    Thanks for the reply Chris

The SD50's are the only ones i DID find. I wasnt searching Horizon's website though, i was on the parts list page on Athearn's Site.

As for the others, im going to try and track some of them down before i go into the metal and brass handrails. Im not a big fan of bending and installing the metal and brass ones....

    hi chris
when you did your c-32, did you by chance do it in conrail? just curious because thats what i did mine in?

I'm telling you, the brass ones look a million times better, and seriously, i'm not kidding, they are no trouble at all. Most of the wire is already pre-bent, you just need to adjust it, and in the end, it glues very easily and solidly with a minimal amount of CA. In the case of my C32-8, one piece i found to be disagreeable, so i bent my own.

It is so easy, that i bet you $50 that you'll ask yourself why you were so worried about it in the first place. you're practically stealing $50 from me.

I should have it in Conrail Ballast Express soon.

Its in a state of being perpertually built. actually, the paint job went horribly wrong, so i still need to get it done. some of the metal grilles i installed might need to get a through cleaning.

LOL ill definitely keep them in mind if i cant find the plastic ones. Do they make them for every loco?

They make sets for particular locomotives, but you really only have to worry if your locomotive has a unique handrail arangement where you might need a longer than usual handrail stanchion. However, the stantions themselves are more or less exactly the same for each locomotive in it's series (EMD handrails are all the same. GE handrails aren't the same as EMD's, but among GEs they are about the same. You get the idea).

in the long run, you can buy any set that has enough pieces for what you want to do.

    what's where

May I make a suggestion, not wanting to be presumptious, of course?
When you want to find what's available for what, why not use Walther's Master Catalog? I have one, for 2008. I also have, on CD, a Bowser Catalog.
    Just a couple of suggestions.

i think sarge is right. walthers catalog is an invaluable resource for finding things. ive referred to it a lot over the years.

by the way hey sarge where/how did you get a bowser catalog. i have been wanting to get one for a while now?

The very first trainshow I went to, they had them on a table just inside the door. I asked the man if they were free, he said, "yes." want me to bootleg you a copy??

LOL i have the 2008 Walthers Catalog, but if your looking for anything Athearn related, you wont find it in there, as Horizon Hobbies (which owns Athearn) is Walthers Arch Rival.....

By golly, you're right!! Funny I hadn't noticed, before!! So, I guess, I'll just have to locate an Athern Catalog. I thought I was getting an occassional e-mail update, but my brain must have slipped more cogs than I thought!!

    hehehe

well Walthers hasnt had Athearn Products for some time, in fact, when i came into the hobby 4 years ago, i member Walthers had what was left of the Athearn Stock on a SUPER Clearence sale. That was right around the time that Athearn got bought by Horizon Hobbies, which we all know that Horizon and Walthers are Hobby Dealer Enimies lol
