Hi All,

Got a chance to run my new Athearn 2=8=0 today. For ten minutes it ran just fine and
then it started to run slower and slower. I checked the tender where the motor is and it
was really warm. Any thoughts on what may be wrong or should I just send her back?

Since sometimes the manufacturer doesent re-lube after testing, my guess would be that it needs to be oiled and the drive gears greased. A little oil on the rods probably wouldn't hurt either.

Hi there eighty eight,

Its funny I went back out to my shop tonight and ran it
somemore. It was still running real slow and getting very warm.
I decited to send her back and went over to get the box and I
heard her take off. She is running fine now but I will run her
everyday until I know for sure. Needless to say these steamers
do need break in time. I though about lubing it but it ran so
darn poorly I did'nt think that was it. I will take your advice
and lube it tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks a bunch
for your input and I'll let you know how she turns out.
