I'm getting ready to purchase a quantity of Fastrack. I heard there was a way to "wash" it so it looks more realistic, but I can't find it on the web. Any helps is appreciated.

I think there was an article in a recent Classic Toy Trains -- probably the previous issue.

I can't remember where I saw it, but basically the technique is to apply a wash of alcohol and black ink or acrylic paint. It takes the shine off and brings out some of the ballast detail.

It takes a little work but what I did was to add or to be more exact glue down real ballast over top of the plastic base. It does a gret job becasue it aids in reducing some of the noise and adds texture and depth. It also looks more realistic.
