can I mix together two different brands of acrylic paint? For instance, Polly Scale & Badger "Model-Flex" or Liquitex tube acrylic and Model Flex? Or do they both have to be the same brand?

Acrylic paint is acrylic paint and they should blend just fine. I have mixed different makes including tube paint with bottle paint and even paint in a can.

I believe that some acrylics can be thinned with alcohol,
but some cannot.
Some mfg's (Tamiya, e.g.) offer their own thinner,
I've read that it works the best.
