i hve decided to actualy start making more harder, complex? models. hve made alot of see going ships, like WW2 ships.
my passion however is battlefleet gothic, i love those ships/disigns.

i have already got my back ground infomation, however i would some help in getting a better program to order to make them. i did have a program called gromp? grimp. i found it differcult to work with/use. was almost thankful when computer crashed and lost it. :p

lol i hope to make powerfol BFG ships to sqush tiny star trek and star wars ships.. :p

    all help thanks

i am from japan living now in UK, still lerning english. is very hard, many the same sounding words, confoses me.

p.s. glad i found this site, lots of beutiful? models and i even saw some 40k paper modol tanks.

Welcome to the site my friend. Try searching for a program called Metaseqoia.

As one of my Pakastani friends said (with all due disgust) while trying to grasp American English..."How can one possibly learn a language where 'fat chance' and 'slim chance' mean the same damnable thing?" Rather than gimp, try doing a google search for "free Image Forge." A great freeware drawing program, easy to learn and many great features. Save frequently, though....the program tends to lock up if your computer is shy of memory. It needs at least two gig of RAM to really operate well on larger drawings. Version 3.60 is the one you want.

Metasequoia is good, and there's a great version available free. I've survived with it for a while now(although it would be nice to have boolean operations available in the free version).

Welcome to the site and to the UK. Good luck with the language,I'm a 44yr old native Englishman and I find now that I can only understand every other word that is said!.
Metaseqoia might be the best programme to go for as it is available free and there is a very good tutourial on this site to help get you started with it.
Good luck with the modeling all the best Gix.

Many thanks all, i hve got Metaseqoia. now lerning it.

luckily for me i hve alot of background, pics and models/plastic to work with.

however i don't think i can make the ship with all the features that these massive ships hve.

back ground has cruisers at 3.5km long and in the hundred of millions tonnage. and with tens of thosands of turrets

    this is first pic of imperial cruiser;

    and a model which i am working from;

also a member from here guided me to this sitt, humbling really to see a mere/small BFG escort ship equal in size to a imperial star destroyor.

imperial battleship and escort on the -10x page, sadley no cruiser

The best part about a model like that is the repeating architecture. Just make a single cannon port and multiply it about a hundred times.

LOL. The worst part about building a model like that is the repeating architecture. A single cannon port and has to be built about a hundred times. :D

thank you all for your help and sawport?
may take a while but i will get thair, i want bigger and cheaper 40k BFG ships :p

i think it would be best to just make basic shape first, then add detail later.

not to sure what size/scale is, but if you know BFG or seen modols, i am aiming for cruiser to be slightly larger than battleship metal model. BBFG?! big-battlefleet gothic.. :p

Flarebaffled is the resident expert on Warhammer 40K, although I don't know if he has done any BFG units. You might PM him for help/advice.

i do not play 40k or bfg, but i love to paint and convert thair modols. and im an addict when it comes to fluff for either :p

i cant get enoufgh of it, i hve just about every codex, novel and indexes.

i love the cold dark fewther, where thair is only war!

    Black Templars FTW!!!

I don't play either, but I've built wargames terrain professionally for about ten years, mainly for 40K players. I do play Dawn of War (The PC game version of 40K). I like the Tau the best, followed by the Imperial Guard, and even had a squad of fire warriors, a Crisis Battlesuit, and a Devilfish Gunship.

I like the Gaunt's Ghost's Novels by Dan Abnett, too.

i should say that i am very lucky to be introduced to GW, as there is no stores in japan and it not all big.
i was introduced by i novel i bought in a bookshop, was in english but i can read english.
after that i was hooked, very expensive to get modols to japan, but was all made easier when i came to UK, home of GW, they have thousands of store, twice as many as all the ones abroad.

i have honestly never played because i dont understand the rules, however im not bothered as i enjoy to read and convert. my converts would also mean i couldnt use them in games, and as all are converted i cant play. :p

bfg is recent fhase, again introduced by a novel called execution hour.

Don't think they'd let me use my converted minis either, but like you, that wasn't the point of doing them.

There are a few hobby shops here in the US, but they tend to go in and out of business rather rapidly. ForgeWorld makes fantastic models, and their customer service is great, but GADZ the cost is enormous. I envy you. My dream vacation would be to go to England, and take an empty suitcase to Nottingham (home of ForgeWorld) and say "Fill her up!"

Only reason I haven't made any BFG models is down to a lack of good reference pics!

Given half a chance, I would happily make some 3D meshes for conversion to paper models :thumb:

I'll see what I can find for you.

    Reference pics ..

basically, good clear pictures of side, top front and back of a ship. The references are needed to get the 3D model right, and help with the texturing.

Once the mesh is done, the rest is easy!
