1:400 USN Destroyers!

I've chosen for my next project the DD Sims and the Fletcher Class destroyer builds:eek:ops:...as shown in the picture...these kits were originally 1:200- which I have readily reduced to 1:400...to match the rest of the 1:400 fleet that I have planned:mrgreen::eek:ops:.....here we go!!!! I don't want to redesign most of these little ships like I had to do on the Hiryu....just to have fun building them....I am thinking however of designing the Destroyer Escort that goes along with these ships...I have the very basic kit that I got from online...hmmm...we'll see how that goes:rolleyes:....onward!!!:wave7:

I really like the paint job on the hulls of these ships. Thats what attracts me to them.
Looking forward to your builds, Bob!
Keep them pictures coming!:thumb:

Below waterline hull construction!

I have completed the hull bulkheads as you can see...and have done the below the waterline by butt-end gluing each piece to the next after conforming each piece to the approximate hull shape....I will now glue this below waterline red skin to the hull bulkheads.

Sweet job! I didn't know Simms class destroyers had the "bevelled" flare on the bow. Interesting. Looking really good!

Sims destroyer 1:400 continued deck building!

These are some shots of the recent progress on the superstructure construction
on my 1:400 reduced scale USN Sims DD....I am really enjoying building something that you don't have to constantly re-engineer as I did on the Hiryu...:p:roll1::roll1::roll1:

DD Sims' torpedo launcher assembly!

These are pictures of the assembly of the triple torpedo launcher assembly...the individual torpedo launcher tubes were rolled using a large straightened paper clip as shown in the first picture...the pieces for assembly are shown in the next picture and then the launcher assembled in my hand...and last the placement of two of the triple launcher assemblies on the torpedo deck...really tedious...but nice to look at the finished tiny assemblies on the torpedo deck...party on!!!

Awesome detail work Bob! Simply awesome!
That pencil in the last picture really puts things into perspective!
Wow! I'm stunned!
Holding an airplane that you just built, in the palm of your hand, is absolutely amazing!
Having room for a dozen more just like it...priceless!

Error!!! Mea Culpa!!!

:sleeping::sleeping:I just realized that the torpedos are not TRIPLE, but QUADRUPLE mounts!wall1:eek::cry::curse:...hamrhamrhamr....sooo we must remedy that!....back to the drawing board...and I thought they were just giving me 2 extras in case of mistake...:p:p:p

Been there & done that! My wife is tired me telling all the goofball mistakes I try to amaze her with. Hope you can fix the torpedo launchers without too much trouble. Amazing model airplane you have there. Looks even more impressive in your hand.

continuing construction of DD Sims superstructure!

I continue construction on the superstructure of the DD Sims...I am now working on the depth charge racks...the depth charge cans are rolled on the head of a pin..to give you the approximate diameter at this scale...:p
...to be continued...:roll1::roll1::roll1:
