Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!!! Yep. While I could find *one* photo of a VMB-613 Mitchell on Kwajalein with painted prop hubs and spinners (see below), the majority of them had unpainted (silver) hubs and spinners, including the subject of this model, “8 Ball”. The inner accuracy nut in me...

Thanks guys! Leif! Always a pleasure when you drop in on a thread of mine. I failed to mention that for the PENCONN event, I “tweaked” the old Mitchell a bit, so can rightly say that there’s something “NEW for 2012!” Not a large change, but readily noticeable to the discerning eye. Compare...

    Sexist and Racist Comments

Good moderating John. I suppose what has me scratching my head the most is how discussing paper modeling (or model building in general) could lead to racist, sexist, or any other "ist" comments. Just what the heck was this guy building (assuming he was building something)....?!!!!

    Would it be cheating...

Whatever trips yer trigger.... I think Mr. Fishbait’s seven rules for modeling sum it up rather nicely. Put me squarely in the “non-purist” category. A quick perusal of my (mostly) paper builds here and elsewhere would reveal a hefty use of wire, wood, paint, superglue, and even (gasp!!)...

No worries Shika, I’m an amateur myself.... Thanks for the good words gents (and the interesting smilies)! Perhaps I should point out some of the differences between the two judging methods currently in play in the IPMS system. In the more “traditional” judging style of “First-Second-Third”...

A little horn tooting if I may...... It’s been a looooong time since I commented on this thread, but I thought some here might find the following of interest. On Saturday, September 15th, friend and fellow paper modeler Colonel Don Boose (U. S. Army, retired) and myself attended the one day...

Yikes! I need to check in here more often, I didn't think anyone was still reading this tired old thread..... Appreciate the kind words fellas. As always, I'm more delighted that my ramblings have provided you with some inspiration. Model on dudes! Mike

Haven't been on Zealot in awhile, missed your post ustercluck, thanks for the kind words. That AM kit of the B-25 is pretty nice in that scale, probably more than a bit better that the old Monogram kit. If you like large scale plastic, there's 1/32nd scale B-25J coming out from a Dutch...

Thanks Steve, much appreciated. I'm just delighted no end that the original crew of 8-ball will get to see the model, as will the rest of the surviving members of VMB-613. All those guys are heros in my book.... Well, you know, you can't take a hobby too seriously. Actually I probably take...

As promised, I have some news that some here may find interesting. Last week, out of the blue, I was contacted through email by a M/Sgt. Robert Yanacek, USMCR (Ret). Sgt. Yanacek saw this thread here on Zealot, and registered just so he could PM me. The Sergeant maintains the VMB-613 and PBJ...

Look at you Phil! Great job on a very pretty little aeroplane. Between you and Boats, the flying boat contingent is well represented! Mike

Epiloque Thanks Phenotype! Not only do I hope you try the technique, but improve upon it. Then post pics! :) I've come to realize that I'm been remiss in providing an epilogue to this thread. There were a few loose ends/corrections that were attended to before I truly said "DONE". So, if I...

Aces of Ecardmodels P-51B Lambie II dual build plus engine and cockpit

It's comes from Japan, and is a pretty useful thing really. I've used mine a lot since I bought it from here about six months ago: http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?c=&p=51577&cat=1,43456,43461 Mike

Model Of The Week: Kit Build Goodyear F2G-1 Super Corsair

I forgot to add the intercooler for the supercharger, a kind of radiator, but I'm really not sure of all the mods that post war racer Corsair ran with. Will would know more..... (OK, I'll stop being a so-in-so know-it-all now). The engine does look pretty cool with all those "pipes" mldixon...

Model Of The Week: Kit Build Goodyear F2G-1 Super Corsair

No one has Chris, because (just as a clarification) engines used on Corsairs are AIR cooled, no radiators required. Oil coolers, but no radiators. ;) Mike

Being that it's mostly dried white glue (which is pretty flexible), the "diamond quilt" is pretty malleable. I twisted and crinkled it with no problem. I haven't experimented further, but using other types of paper (20lb printer paper comes to mind) might give better results. The tissue paper is...

What to say? As is the usual term used by our friends in the UK, color me gobsmacked as well! Thank you Chris. I'm honored, and while I'm sure you were just musing, to be clear, let's keep it as POTW. I fear anything longer would quickly become an eyesore. And thanks to all for the kind...

End Game Thanks all for the good thoughts. Some last view I took before I collapsed my photo shoot set-up: I guess that's it folks. I posted a final "parting shot" post over at Papermodelers. Rather than cut-n-paste, I'll just point you all there...
