    Accurail Switchman

Hi everyone, My layout is small enough that I can do all my uncoupling by hand. In surfing the net I've come across the Switchman tool by Accurail, which seems like it might work well, but I've only seen it in conjunction with HO couplers. Does anyone know if it also works for N scale? Thanks...

    cn/chessie lashup?

I've tried every conceivable google search, but I can't find the answer to my question. Would it have been possible to find a Canadian National unit and a Chessie System unit together in a lashup? I have two units that I'd like to run together on my layout, but I'd be happier if I knew it to be...

    Atlas switch machines

They're huge, they're unrealistic, and they're downright ugly. But dammit, those Atlas remote turnouts are easy to work with. In planning my new layout, I've been going back and forth on whether to use them or go the more "realistic" route, using either under-table switch machines or ground...

    C32-8 in n scale?

Might anyone know if theres an n scale version of GE's C32-8? It's one of my favorite locomotives and would love to have one on my layout, but it's just not coming up on the radar. Chris

    switch machines under foam core

Hi everyone, In addition to the small layout I'm currently putting together, I'm also planning a larger 3x8 layout. I'd like to use Atlas code 55 track, which means I'll have to use under-table switch machines for the turnouts. I'll also be using 2" extruded foam for the scenic base. I'm just...

    Kato & Accumate couplers

I was just singing the praises of my new Kato sd80mac, but ... is it me, or are Kato's couplers not compatible with Atlas Accumate couplers? I just tried coupling up the the Kato engine with an Atlas car and they just don't seem to fit  Is this an issue for anyone else? Chris

    Kato sd80mac

I just got a brand new Kato Conrail sd80mac off ebay. It's way too big to look right on my small layout, but it was a good price and I gave into temptation. I'm glad I did, too. Man, what a beautiful, smooth running engine! Hats off to Kato for such fine work :thumb:

    engine whine

Hi everyone, I have a brand new Atlas B40-8 that is giving me some trouble. There's a fair amount of motor whine and it runs sluggishly going forward. The whine is worst when it first gets going; after a few minutes of continuous running it's not as bad, but still pretty noisy. It runs and...

    My wee layout

Hi everyone, Just thought I'd share a pic of my little layout which is in the works. It measures only 2'4" x 3'11". The last few times I tried something bigger the projects all stalled, so I thought I'd keep it small and manageable this time. But there are possibilities for expansion with the...

    leaning Atlas locos

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the tendency that some Atlas engines have to lean slightly to one side. If you look at them head on they're a bit cockeyed. Not all of them do this, for example, the ones in the "classic" series don't, nor do the old Atlas/Kato models, but in others...

    New to forum w/ question

Greetings all, I stumbled across this forum just the other day and immediately signed on. I've just taken up a little n scale layout that I've been meaning to work on for years and it's great fun. I hope to have some pictures up soon of the first stages of progress. I have a question: I...
