Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

agreed... I don't see where you could exit/enter the facilities either. I was just spending some time of livemaps yesterday looking at the tacoma ports. I found it interersting how many interconnections, run arounds, loops, etc. there are in most of these plans. This makes sense, as the...

need a small logging plan please

wow! Haven't been here for a while; career/fam/etc. had to come first. Looking good. I'm getting ready to start planning out what I'm going to do. Just finished a trip to coos bay Or... got the itch to start! P.s. are there other forums that ppl hang out on regularly, that I can get...

    Converting Bachmann DCC to DC?

already said... But just a note: the bachmann 2-8-0 that I got which was DCC equipped had clips and instructions on how to make it DC. You insert the plugs and there you go.

Very nice! How'd you do those pics? Cool! Anyway, as I approach starting a small new layout after a hiatus, I've thought about this a lot too. I've done a lot of other modeling more recently, and these ideas apply there too. First, realize your limitations. Esp. if you are new to the...

    building a saw mill

wow... That is perhaps one of the most inspiring group of photos I've seen. I started leaning towards doing simply a mining operation, but now... I'm not so sure. Hey, bigsteel, I thought I'd share this with you too: Chris Comport: Custom Model Building If you look through the photos, you...

    ARGH! HOn3 woes...

What I meant was... ... showing me how to do it, watching me while I ask some questions. Then I'd practice. However, I've heard over and over, from many ppl, that it can be tricky, I mean to learn the basic technique. After that, it's not bad from everybody that I've spoken to and things...

    ARGH! HOn3 woes...

Thanks everyone for the pointers... Well, this is good to know, and when I'm ready to do some narrow gauge, I suppose this is what I'll have to do. I think if I had a good support group that could walk me through a couple of times of laying rail, it wouldn't be a problem. I have come to...

need a small logging plan please

Two thumbs up! :thumb::thumb: I like it! Perfect with the town above the tracks. Now, when do you start? BTW- now I'm going to have to start planning and get everyone's input.

Major yard as theme of layout?

I've actually seen this as a major theme on a variety of layouts. A lot happens in a yard, esp. with engine service facilities... You'll still need to condense things. Check out 'track planning for realistic operation', the author speaks a lot about the subject, and has a whole section or two...

    ARGH! HOn3 woes...

exactly... This is why I wanted to do narrow gauge. I could have less and it would still retain enough prototypic feel, enough to satisfy me. (sigh...) I'm going to have to learn to lay track, aren't I?

    Logging Layout Track Plan!

:) Thanks for pointing that out. I don't always check the data of posting, my bad. Is there much traffic on this site anymore?

need a small logging plan please

Looks good! Cool! Looks good! You'll get some good operation out of that, for sure. I like the longer switchbacks. re: your observations; perhaps moove the mill more towards the end of the layout? You could put some logging shanties or something, kinda like this, , up on a little hill by the...

HOn3 :curse: Why do I have to like the stuff that you can't get?!?!?! Not that price is a problem, but lack of availability just sucks. When I'm ready, I'll give these guys a call. Thanks for the info everyone!

    ARGH! HOn3 woes...

Alas, I think my ventures into hon3 will likely be curtailed by this, at least for the time being. I guess I don't mind laying track, it's just that I didn't want to take all my time to do this. Anyone make any turnout 'kits' that are reasonably priced?

Thanks. Checked them out, and still the same problem- lack of premade turnouts. Any other suggestions from the community?
