Try a thin brush and waterpaint (not too much water). You can mix the colors for a better match and the result would be perfect.

I learned from this guy (Micro) alot for my models! He took white wood glue and mixed with a bit water and then he "painted" the whole model with it. That makes the models harder and the surface become a better coat as with sprayed clear coat. you can see this also in other threads of this guy...

As i started i also used pens, but the color (until it is now a black line) never fit to the surface! then i saw that people using wet colors! I used a school paintbox with 24 colors and if the color not match, then you can mix with others! I know that some people are using aquarell watercolor...
