    Free Model #3 HMS Dreadnought

Hello Today is the last day of the contest. I'm very sorry to say it but I was not able to finish the model for the contest. I had less free time then expected and there was much more work the I planned. As you know I planned to modify the digital navy free kit in bigger scale (1:400 vs...

The hull is finished (but only in test version). Now I think it's time to start building the real model because until now I have nothing done.

Free Model #3 - HMS Dreadnought by Mark_1984

You can check here how the secondary guns should look like. http://www.dreadnoughtproject.org/models/ships/HMS_Dreadnought/max/12pdr.jpg You can not make the same in 1:700 (even 1:400) but at least proportions can be right.

    Free Model #3 HMS Dreadnought

In my first post I told that I will be building the details first and the hull at the end. But one day (it was few weeks ago) I decided that I need a stand for all the small parts. This is an original digitalnavy hull that I had build. I had a lot of fun with it so I decided to start...

    Free Model #3 HMS Dreadnought

Hello I started building main turret. This is not a final version. I want to check, how detailed can it be in 1:400 scale. It is not painted and some things are still missing. The guns are only for picture, the final ones will be much better. There will be a ladder on the front and...

    HMS Alert 1777

I will try with knife. Nail polish remover is in fact acetone (even if the new ones say that they are acetone free). I think that there is no risk of using chemicals here because I have to paint it all anyway. Michal

    HMS Alert 1777

After few tests and some googleing I found the way to remove the unwanted glue from the planks. The glue is cold "butapren" but it can be a local name. It's chlorine-rubber glue. It's not easy to remove because even after drying it has a consistency of rubber so you can't sand it. The way I...

Lightship Ambrose - Free Model Competition

Here is what I'm planning to do now. I found this site with the tugboat model (Dundrym Bay) from similar time to W.O. Decker. There are the plans of the model too. The hull is different but similar. On page 43 and 44 of the rebuilding report I have few frames of the hull. Then on page 49...

    HMS Alert 1777

Hello again. I finished the planking. I had to modify the size of last 4 planks and now it is OK. You can see it on the pictures. The next step is painting the hull. I'm afraid doing it. The planks are all in glue and I'm sure the glue will be visible after painting. Now I'm...

In fact it is explained very well in the build instruction of the kit, but... I was reading the instruction very carefully and the result is as you can see. But it is this kind of instruction (at least for me) that you can fully understand only after you fall yourselves into all traps. Michal

    HMS Alert 1777

Hello again. I'm finishing planking the hull. There is still few (4 on both sides exactly) planks left but I made few mistakes which I want to show here so other will have the possibility to make it better. First mistake is mainor one. Planks should overlap but on the short period they...

    HMS Alert 1777

Hello I had long break in building this ship. There was many reasons: more work, small vacations, another model (Ambrose diorama). Now I finished the second layer on the hull. I think I made few mistakes here. I had to trim parts 36l and 36p. Probably I left too big gaps between parts...
