There were some Manx Electric Tramway kits on ebay the other day. I'm not sure what the gauge was but they look narrow gauge. (00 Gauge MER and Narrow Gauge wagons Card Model Kit on eBay, also, Tramway Light Rail, Transportation, Collectables (end time 08-Jun-08 23:19:30 BST))

    What happened to scalescenes?

It still seems OK from the UK. Scalescenes.com - Download and print realistic model railway buildings They've changed their free model, too. Its a nice little wood and brick goods shed which I'm sure would fit on a US layout too.

    Question on Rail Scale

I've often wondered how much the height of ships' railings varies. The 1/250 etched brass ones I normally use look a bit large, but scale up to a height of about 1.3m. The templates on David Hathaway's Paper Shipwright models are usually about 4-4.5 mm high, equivalent to about 1m. but perhaps...

    Let the debate begin...

I've almost finished Admiral Ushakov. I bought the Gremir version download, but I think it's the same as the Promodel one, with the option of printing another sheet if you screw up. It's excellent and I've really enjoyed building it, just slowed at the tedium of building 14 lifeboats! I built a...

    JSC Friedrich der Grosse

Thanks for that, Michi. I'll study the thread in a bit more detail later, but the pictures of the hull construction help. I think I'd figured most of that out , but the kit instructions don't help a lot. What an odd way to make a hull.

    JSC Friedrich der Grosse

I purchased this 1/250 kit on ebay on a bit of an impulse (Iknow, but you've all done it). I've followed the JSC 1/400 thread with interest. This is one of the 'Red ribbon' kits and looks a lot better than the only other JSC kit I've tried SMS Pather. However Friedrich is a big boy, 76 cm long...

Imperial Russian Steam Yacht "Livadia" from Walden Models

Any idea of the cost yet? Not that it matters, I want it anyway. (I shouldn't have said that should I?) But what a fantastic model of a great subject

Would 1:200 rails work for a 1:250 model?

Be sure to let us know how yu get on. There are a lot of good things on that site that look as though they could make the fiddly bits of ship modelling easier.

Would 1:200 rails work for a 1:250 model?

I've used these and they're fine. I just wonder sometimes if they're a bit overscale for 1/250. The rails are just over 5mm high which is equivalent to about 1.3m on the prototype. How high are ships railings, and how much does it vary? The templates on David Hathaway's Paper Shipwright models...

    USS Pennsylvania

It's also often true that mistakes that are blindingly obvious to you are not noticed by others, and, sometimes when you look a year later you can't remember what the problem was. Well done you for sorting the deck though.

SMS Rhein/SMS Mosel - Free Model Competition

Well done. A really nice model. It's good to see someone else's approach to a kit I've made. These old ships just make interesting models.

SMS Rhein/SMS Mosel - Free Model Competition

Thanks for the kind words. The railings are etched brass from Hamberger models. I buy them from Marcle models. Not cheap but they are neat and easier than making ones from thread, although you need to cut and adjust if you want he uprights in the right place

    what are you making

What do I make? Most things at one time or another. Ships if I'm feeling good, and the eyesight's Ok. Architecture if I want to relax - in the case of Betaxa's Prague Castle for a very long time. I don't much care for making models of better ways of killing people, although I might make an...

SMS Rhein/SMS Mosel - Free Model Competition

I've built Smerch and nearly completed Kite/ Staunch. Like all the Papershipwright models I've done they are great. Not easy, sometimes fiddly, but it all fits and looks good. Picture should be Smerch- nothing to do with a windmill despite the title!

    Starting Out

Digital Navy's Ambrose is a nice straightforward model. Not too fiddly a good strong hull. www.cr.nps.gov/maritime/nhl/ltship87.htm gives a good history and photos so you can add extra detail if you get ambitious. It's a free model after all!

    Prague Castle from Betexa

I bought one of these at Prague castle itself during a recent visit. Its a huge model but comes in sections so you don't need to put everything together - just as well as the complete thing is about 5feet long. I've made section A as a tentative start. The fit of parts is superb, but there's no...
