any advice on nailing track to cork roadbed on 5/8 plywood

I have used nails in the past to hold everything down and it just doesn't hold up well. I had noticed that over time the nails holding the track down would eventually work back up making contact with my couplers and causing problems. On my new layout I went with 3/4' plywood, gluing down the...

DIY low profile wheelsets for code 55 Atlas

The other night I was running some of my MT cars on my layout that has Atlas code 55 rail and as you know the flanges were riding on top of the rail spikes making that unprototypical buzzing sound. I thought to myself " How can I fix this problem without having to buy all new wheelsets?". Then I...

    Scenery and dryer sheets?

I was wondering, has anyone used "used dryer sheets" in place of paper towels or gauze when building up the terrain on a layout?:???: My wife and I have a couple of grocery bags that we have been saving to do this with.

I believe the last run for the J was in late '59 I'll have to look in my books at home and find out for sure. Thanks for the info on the first gen. deisels. Now I have a list that I can start acquiring.

Thanks for the welcome, woodone. I'm mainly trying to stay in the modern steam era on the N & W for right now. I have been looking for some first generation diesels in N that would have been on the N & W about that time. Atlas has just announced a release of an RS-11 painted for the N & W, but...

Code 80 to 55 transition joiners

I had heard of that, too. I was just wondering if someone like ME or one of the other track manufacturers had made some that you could use without soldering.

Code 80 to 55 transition joiners

Hey, I was just wondering does anybody know if someone makes a transition rail joiner from atlas code 80 to code 55? I know that I have alot of code 80 flex track from my earlier layouts that I could use on my staging yards and helixes. It would save a lot of money if I could reuse all of this...

Newbie: Does it really matter which car to buy?

Cheetah20 don't forget that you said you were using Atlas code 55 track on your layout. That means make sure that the cars you buy have the low profile wheelsets on them or the wheel flanges will ride on the inside spikes on the track! Then you will have to replace the wheel sets or modify them...

    Atlas code 55 turnout machines

Thanks, I've thought about manual control but I want to be able to build a type of central control panel for turnout control. Later maybe integrate them into my DCC system. There was another website that I seen a modeler use slide switches with linkage to operate the turnouts. Looked very neat...

    New N scale steam models

I was looking at some of the websites that are announcing the new 0-8-0 switchers coming out this year ( I think it is Walthers ). In the advertisement for these engines they mention something about that one of the last mainline roads to buid this type of switcher was the Norfolk and Western.The...

    Atlas code 55 turnout machines

Thanks for the reply, grewsome. I have a toroise machine and it works well, but I can't seem to get over the price. It may not be too bad for a layout that has a few turnouts but when you get to over fifty, a few dollars each here and there adds up. I don't mind if the turnout snaps in place as...

    Flex Track- Radius Help??

I think what the others are saying is that the sectional track is already preformed to certain radii. This makes it relatively easy to determine what minimum radius you can use for your particular situation. Sectional code 55 does not have to be " held in place " to maintain the curvature that...

    Atlas code 55 turnout machines

I need to know if the Atlas deluxe under table switch machine is worth looking at to use on my layout. My benchwork consists of 3/4" plywood and cork roadbed. Any opinions on this?

N scale steam decoders Thanks for the reply rogerw. On your TCS decoder, how is you slow speed response? My MRC decoder doesn't seem to go very slowly. I have tried adjusting the CVs for starting voltage and top voltage, but it dosen't seem to do very much good. I have read good things about...
