Well the next thing to do is to take the motor assembly apart so I can start the isolation process.
I was going to bring it to work this morning so I could look at it under the microsope to see if that would shed any light as to how to disassemble it. "DISASSEMBLE??? NO...

I will start off here with a picture of the break down...
Hopefully you can blow this up to see the details. This is always very helpful when you are destroying...I mean dissassembling a unit.
This shows the top of the unit and the printed circuit board. The lights and their diodes...

Well this is what she looks like under the hood.
The first picture I took of this was blurry so I had to take another one. This picture was taken later so the Truck Side Frame (the piece of black plastic covering the wheels) is already removed on the left side. You can actually see...
I love forums....you can find a ton of information...even stuff you didn't know that you didn't know. I want to thank everybody who posts here because you've been a wealth of information to me starting out in model railroading. Well my knowledge is very very limited but I do want to...
Over Analyze
My wife says over and over again that I "Over Analyze" everything. I buy books and books about my "idea or plan" for the moment and drop everything else. Which is true! We were planning on taking a cruise to Alaska so I bought books (An Idiots Guide to Alaska) and books about the...
I'm doing a coffee table first with HO and N. You can find the thread in the HO section. I'm also working on a large 5'x10' N layout. That progress is in this section. My question is geared more toward my large N layout since there are so many switches and track involved. It is almost...
Track Laying Virgin
This is my first time at laying track. So I nail down all of the switches first. I would then solder the flex track together to fit to the next switch. Cut it to fit and move on. The curves are tricky since the rails move. I will need to cut the binders as needed and even up...
Okay...I have a plan...where do I start laying out from? Do I start in the center and work out? Do I start at one corner and work out from there? Do I start in the yard? WHERE???? I will print out the layout from XTrkCad at 1:1 and use that for the general track location but do you start at a...
Luckily I had some engines, cars, track, switches, power supplies, and other important stuff donated to the cause. I am still accepting donations of other N scale items if there are any generous people out there. :-D:-D:-D

Newest Plan
Okay...here is the latest and probably the last change. The major change was to add another foot to the top. This gave me the room for another yard. The right one will represent Spokane's East yard and the top on the West yard. The center yard is going to be Wenatchee WA. The brown...
Here are two updated layouts taking the advise of adding 2' to the end. I stretched the center circles on the left which brought the grade down to 3.2% which is acceptable. I also added a larger yard in the center. Is there any way to make this better?
On this one I changed the right yard to...
I was told to move this from Mikes Layout Plans in the N Scale Thread to here...so here it is.
Okay...this is what I have so far. This is the plan from Mike's page that I like. It is 4'x6.5' in N scale.
And this is how I modified the track. First I added 1.5' to the right side of the track...
What Do You Think
Okay...this is what I have so far. This is the plan from Mike's page that I like...
And this is how I modified the track. First I added 1.5' to the right side of the track to add the two yards. I like this because I can work one yard while a train comes into the second...
I finished the layout in XTrkCad and ran some trains on it yesterday. It won't be much of a layout but I think it will be enough for what I'm wanting to do with it. I don't want any switches to deal with. I want to be able to turn it on and let it go . I had to work today so and I have a work...
Looking good. Be careful of the lay-out being on the floor. My son-in-law started an N layout this weekend. He left it on the floor and his son (10 months old) tore it up last night.
lesson learned....
You Never Know
This happened to me...see the pictures here starting on page 2 post #19....

I was in our local discount hobby store two weekends ago looking for N scale risers for my HO/N coffee table layout. I was standing in the aisle when this older couple...
Best Plan Ever
I have to admit...the layout under "my take on other people's layouts" showing the John Armstrong's Granite Gorge & Northern...has got to be one of the best layouts I've ever seen...for a small track. I took it and did it in XTrkCad...of course mine isn't as...
Marking the Center Line
This is what I used and I think Dansco is talking about above...
In the fabric section of Wally World for only 97c.
I ran the center line of my print-out from XTrkCad. I was on a piece of waffer board so I had to run the wheel back and forth to make a mark. You...
Train Video
Here is a link to two videos I took this weekend of the new train set. I had to chase the mailman down to get the box since I wasn't home when he came by.
Hope you enjoy.

Sorry about them...
I put my new (to me) GE 44-Tonner on the track Friday and it did nothing but SMOKE!!!! :cry:I knew there was a problem when I bought it. I'll bring it to work tomorrow and document the process of removing the engine. Or do I just send the whole thing back to Bachmann?
