    Good steam engines

Who makes good steam engines in N scale. I am looking for 2-8-2 Mikado painted for PRR. I want one that will run good and look good. I found one made by model power. Are they good engines or should I look elsewhere. Also looking for PRR passenger cars from the steam era if someone could...

    Layout redesign

Thanks for the suggestions guys it really gives me something to think about. I am thinking of putting a power plant where I had the round house in the one drawing. It would give me an industry to deliver my coal too. Also I thought some high tension wires running up the mountain from the...

    Layout redesign

My yard is going to be used more for storing trains. I had a suggestion from another site that my yard was to big for the size of my layout. It was suggested that I actually down size the yard add to the size of my town and add another industry instead of the turn table. Here is what I come up...

    Layout redesign

I have been toying around with the idea of redesigning the yard on my layout. I was looking for some opinions on the redesign. The layout is N scale and the time period is more towards the modern era. I am not modeling anywhere specific but trying to keep more or less a pennsylvania theme...

    n scale train length

I think it mostly depends how your layout is designed and personal preference. If you have a couple small towns close together I would say you would want a smaller train so that the train isnt entering one town while the back of the train is still leaving the other town. On the other hand if...

    new layout photos

I was very happy with how my hillside turned on my previous pictures until I started working on my mountain. I tried something different with the mountain then I did on the first hill and first put down earth blend instead of just putting green grass down first. It blended so much better and...

I have been thinking about applying at NS as a conductor in Harrisburg Pa. As best I can tell this is the path I would have to take to become an engineer. I was looking for any info somebody might have because their website is not to informative. Do you need any special schooling prior? How...

    First Z scale Layout Advice

What I was looking was the left side where you want to elevate your track. I am wondering if you will have the room to elevate your track if you want to. I assume your yard at the bottom you would want flat. If you start an incline at the end of the yard and only make a one inch rise at a 2%...

What do you use for fascias?

I have not yet got this far with my layout yet but I have been thinking about making mine look like a rock face. I kind of thought it would look like the layout was cut out of the ground. Not really what you were looking for but just an idea.

    mountain advice

Is your mountain solid foam with the tunnel carved into it? If its along the edge of your layout you may want to make some kind of access hole along the sides to get to the inside of your tunnels in the event a train would derail inside the mountain.

    Looking for a bright idea

I would second the idea of the little pizza cutter looking thing. The ones I have seen look like a pizza cutter with small points on them. That would make a good impression on your foam. Another cheaper idea would be to trace with a pen and apply a little bit extra pressure that would transfer...
