Thanks for the info Deano and CCT70. That was an interesting read. I will post some more pics of the cars when I get them further along.

    Union Pacific Modelers...

I thought this would be a good place to ask a UP related question. My Father-in-Law is in the process of expanding his layout. As soon as he was finished with his first railroad, he was ready to tear out a side to extend the tracks down the rest of the basement. He used Bachman E-Z Track on...

    Rapido Passenger Cars

I have one and it is a beautiful car. Check the wheel gauge though. My car kept bumping over the frog of a turnout. All four axles were out of gauge.

Looking for a Sound Decoder for my Athearn P42

Hello everyone, I am wanting to install a sound decoder for the first time. I have the HO Athearn Amtrak Phase V P42 locomotive. It is my understanding that the internals are the same as a Dash 8. I can get the LokSound #72466 with the sounds for the Dash 8-40BP installed locally. I was...

    PHOTO FUN week of 5/18/07

It's good to see a fellow home brewer on the Guage. I have a Czech Pilsner and an ESB in the fermenters now.

    Union Pacific Modelers...

I was going to buy the low ditch light version. But there was some binding in the gears when we tested the loco. That was the last one they had of that version and so I went with the one in the pictures.

    Union Pacific Modelers...

Hi Deano, I am also a big UP fan. A lot of my family has worked for UP. If it wasn't for them transferring the St. Louis operations to Omaha, I would be working for UP also. I'm just getting my layout and collection started. I recently picked up one of the Broadway Limited AC6000 locomotives...

    Bridge question?

Here is how I am going to build the ravine in my layout. I want to use the Micro Engineering 150' Steel Viaduct Bridge. My layout isn't huge, so there isn't a whole lot of room to build the track elevation very high. So my alternative is to make the bench work lower. I am going to use a...

My first attempt at a layout.

I thought about doing that, but the station tracks would be even shorter than they already are.

My first attempt at a layout.

Hi Steve, I have a 2" centerline spacing for all the parallel tracks at the same elevation. For parallel tracks at different elevations, I made the centerline space 3" to make room for a retaining wall.

My first attempt at a layout.

This will be my first real layout. I have been kicking around designs for a month or so now. I would like to do an HO scale layout with passenger service as the main focus. I will be using Union Pacific with some Missouri Pacific thrown in from time to time. I want to use the Walthers Union...

    Laying out curves

I am in the process of designing my first real HO layout. I am having trouble with the curves. How would you go about laying out a parallel curve, transitioning from 2" centers on the straight to 2.5" +/- center spacing in the curves. I am going to be using Atlas code 83, 22” or 24” curves...
