    SW9 shell issue

Good afternoon, Ages since I been on. I have a very carefully used Proto 2000 SW9 in a very attractive black Canadian National livery. I am changing the Couplers, going for Kadee 'old reliables' . My issue is re-attching the shell. There are 5 plastic grabs on the shell, but with 2 exceptions...

    Layout progress

Evening Folks, Some progress on the layout, The wiring is complete with isolated sidings and am working on interior building lighting. MRC sound boxes next. I am not happy with the roads, the are more like confused asphalt highway than country mud. The genral idea is a rural branchline with...

    2006 Presidents Choice offer

I was scanning Ebay and the new presidents choice trainset was being offered for $45.00usd. I was both happy and suspicious at the same time. The seller said some friend collects toys and had asked him to help sell them. This is way bellow the $99.00cdn they are being sold for. How did he get...

    Rail Painting

As a follow up to a thread I posted regarding what to use and howto finish rails for a layout, I noticed this morning tht the December issue of Model Railroader carries a 'new product' article. Its a 3 marker set of Floquil paints. One is for rails, another for structures and finally one for...

    Sculptamold alternative

Molding with Crayola I had a great idea too. I took a Woodland Scenic Rock mold for layer rock and filled with the clay. It makes a great imprint and is easy to work with once pulled from mold.

    Sculptamold alternative

Availability Nothing, never used it but cannot find it locally. I have a Christmas layout deadline looming. Woodlands Scenics charges 12.00 for a smallish tub. The Crayolla I picked up for 4.00. I made sure it would dry hard, was paintable, would adhere and was workable.

    Sculptamold alternative

My layout hill terrain has been built up with pink board, smoothed with rolled newspaper and covered in woodland scenics plaster clothe. I am going to use some woodland scenic rock molds but will need to 'freehand' some outcroppings around a small cave. Have looked at Crayola, don't laugh, air...

    Rail Painting

A rail painting question. I have a mainline and sidings. Sidings I have used a nice mixed dull rust effect. What colour for the Mainline, black? This will be hand painted as is only a small 4x6 layout. Thanks

    Rolling Stock

Freight on a Budget For the transition era I like the Accurail option, they seem to cover the period well. The only drawback is most of the boxcar doors are fixed. But they are great to weather.

    Deal or Not?

Canadian Twist The twist for us Canadian model railroaders is gettin Canadian Roads at reasonable prices. The availability is normally the issue, especially the transition era liveries.

    Sneaking One In!

Morning, I am putting a 6x4ft Christmas Railroad layout together, practising before the new house and train room. I have a couple of questions. I have the layout framed and the legs which remove, completed. I want to know when to attach the fascia? Before I work on the scenery? Also I like...
