    Weekend projects

I put up some fascia along a couple sides of my layout and carved some terrain out of foam. I'm also scratchbuilding a structure out of paper/cardboard and I did a little bit of gluing on that.

    Scratchbuilt factory

Looks like you're off to an excellent start! What is the length of your model? It looks like a rather large building, even if it is just half the length of the prototype. Is this going to be a low-profile building (i.e., tucked against the backdrop) or are you going to model all 4 sides of the...

PECO Vs SHINOHARA 83 vS 100

I'm using the North American-style Peco code 83 track and have had no problems with it and it looks a lot better than my former track (code 100 Atlas in brass and steel - that track was 15+ years old and needed to go). Just as a caution: I ordered some Peco turnouts and rail joiners and...

A scratch built DSP&P Waycar (caboose)

This is looking great. :thumb: I'm especially impressed with the windows. Is there enough friction that the windows stay open when you raise the movable pane or do the windows need to be propped open?

    Falls here, back to modeling!

My layout, small as it is, is in our unfinished attic. It's blazing hot up there in summer (this is South Carolina) and cold in the winter (well, a "South Carolina cold"). This time of year and the spring are the only times it is comfortable to be up there for long periods of time.

    My Final Trackplan.....

TrainNut beat me to it while I was double checking the track plan. Another run-around (and a longer one, if possible) would probably make your life a lot easier when it comes time to operate this layout. Also, I applaud your sense of minimalism (in terms of furniture) but I don't think you...

Find the RR that matches your personality!

I'm the Ghost Train! The horoscope: "You often feel that you're the subject of songs, legends, and even myths. But are you really feeling something real or is this just an overactive imagination? Is something really calling to you in the great beyond or do you just really like Halloween? Only...

    My latest project

You can download a free model from http://www.scalescenes.com and give it a try. That will give you an idea of what is involved in building these paper models and how good you at at doing so. In the spring, several of us built the free freight house/shed. Check out the thread...

    My latest project

Very nice Loren! :thumb: Since this is a background building, I like your choice of printing the windows on regular paper, not transparencies. This way, you don't have to detail the interior of this huge building and you also won't be able to see through the building to the backdrop behind it.

    Mac Users?

Since you brought up track planning software, does anyone know if or when XTrkCAD (http://www.xtrkcad.org/) will be coming to the Mac?

    Sept 07, Vacation time

Very nice TrainNut! The pictures remind me a lot of a train trip I took from Alamosa to La Veta (Colorado) this summer. I'll have to post some pictures from that trip in this thread.

    Your input please

It fits great on my monitor. Nice photo, too!

    Mac Users?

Another Mac user here. Typing on a PowerBook G4 right now. Have an iMac G4 at home that the kids use, and my wife has a MacBook that we bought for her work. We love 'em! :thumb: My first Mac was a Mac LC that my parents helped me buy when I went away to college. It was an option (and an...

    The Gauge Party Winter 07

For all you planners who are planning on making a plan, try this: Dump contents of junk box into a pile alongside an unused siding. Use everything in the box. The messier, the better. Pour 1 bottle glue over the junk. Let dry. Paint junk pile in various shades of rust and ... voila! One...

    N scale 2 by's

In another thread, Wabash Banks posted a picture showing a N scale shed he built using, in part, near-scale 2x4s. See http://forum.zealot.com/t116356-5/#post425662 He made his lumber by taking really really fine shavings off the end of a 1/32 in. thick sheet of basswood.

    My first catalog house

Before the Linnards move in, they may want to have a tree trimmer pay them a visit. There seems to be a large branch that isn't attached to the tree trunk ... and that can't be a good thing. At least they shouldn't let Fluffy out to "water the tree" on a windy day. :) Otherwise, the house is...

    Speakin' of paper models...

That was one of my first thoughts when I saw the picture that Colton_modeler posted, and I model in HO. If you go to the website where the paper model is posted, you'll see that the iron work is intended to be printed on a transparent sheet (transparency, overhead, whatever you want to call it)...

    Speakin' of paper models...

That's one big model - ~9 x 10 inches. Shouldn't be too hard to scale it when printing so it was in HO (or whatever scale you want) - the website says that it is ~1/66 scale as designed. A very impressive creation!

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Yea, these models are pretty nice in that they are already weathered as soon as they come out of the printer. Makes it easy to avoid the "brand new building" look.

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Actually, the freight house is still available. In the upper left corner of the scalescenes.com website, you can switch between the ScaleScenes USA site (with the freight house) and the ScaleScenes UK site (with some kind of train/bus shelter). I bet you're seeing the UK site as the default...
