    Digitrax question

progamming a locomotive means you can set up the number that the engine is so you can call up the loco to run. You can also set up the speeds so it starts and stops more realisitc ( if you do that remeber that stopping takes a bit longer , had an engine run off the end of my old layout once.)...

So it's going to be all steam? Shay's for the logging? I saw my first full size operational Shay this past summer in Ottawa at the museum of Science and Technology really cool. You may want to really look at where you are going to have your sections connect, see if your going to have to many...

    My First Layout (R&R Rail)...

That will work you can run feeder lines off that bus to the tracks above, but remeber that in DC you can't run more then one locomotive unless you isolate the tracks... What era are you planning to run?

    My layouts prgress

I am running DCC , I found out the last time I built a layout that it's a pain drilling holes in the braces after they are in:curse: , so I drill the same pattern in every brace and every joining peice before hand so I will never have to worry when running wires in the future..:thumb: Tom

A "Virtual Railroad" Would Be Cool

Trainz 2006 by a company called Auran http://www.auran.com/TRS2006/index.php is really good, don't use it myself but my father who's retired has it uses it every day. He has a layout on it that he has been building for months takes two hours for a train to go full circle, graphics are amazing...

    Ben Franklin?/ Reinvent the wheel?

Not to burst your bubble, but that may work only for a short period, there is always some loss due to friction, the pulley system and even motor at the end. The battery will last for a while but slowly you will not have enough amps to due much of anyting. I would be surprised if it ran for an...
