    N Scale tug boat

I think either Revell or one of the non model railroad companies makes a 4 pack of boats, including a push boat, a tug and a fire boat. They are 144 scale, as I recall, but would be a great place to start for a good kitbash effort. You can find these in many hobby shops. Eric

    Calling all trackplanners!

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I do plan to operate this primarily as a solo operator. Maybe an occasional guest operator. The 6'x10' "closet can be staging or fully sceniced operational area. It is primarily storage for all of my train stuff. There are shelves under the layout. The narrow...

Steam whistle sound when opening home page

I often visit this site during breaks at work. I would hate to forget to mute my PC volume before logging on. Eric

    Ideas Please

I like the approach you are taking to doing your layout. I may "borrow" a couple of the ideas mentioned by others in your thread to include in a few places on my layout. Eric

    Ideas Please

If you are using black light during operating sessions, you may want to try lightning effects with sound. A simple color organ hooked up to some track lighting or strobe lights will give you very realistic lightning storm effects. Here's one I use for the haunted hayride and haunted barn my...

    Calling all trackplanners!

Hi. I've been an N scale model railroader for 20+ years, but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to build a layout this big. The benchwork is already in place for the shelf layout, and the dimensions cannot be modified. This was done to preserve the land grant offered by my wife in...

    Engine Buzz/Hum with DCC

GAry: Thanks for the reply. There is no jumper on these n scale decoders, but there is a CV that allows for dual operation mode DC/DCC or DCC only. I'll have to check those settings when I figure out what I'm doing with CV's. I'm still on the steep upslope of that learning curve.

    Engine Buzz/Hum with DCC

Thanks. The sound is very different from a straight DC locomotive operating on DCC track. This is an distinct electrical buzz or humming sound. It does not sound like a DC loco's whining, which has a much higher pitched tone when on a DCC powered track. Again, this deeper sounding buzz is...

    Engine Buzz/Hum with DCC

Thanks Rich. The manual is helpful and I actually have that one from the package with the decoders I purchased. The digitrax decoders that I installed provided fairly quiet operation. It is the Factory installed LENZ decoders from Atlas that are giving me noisy operation. I'll have to...

    Engine Buzz/Hum with DCC

I'll have to download those manuals from the Atlas site. Unfortunately, there is no manual provided with decoder equipped locomotives. I installed two Digitrax DN 163A0 decoders in SD35's. These run nice and quiet. Thanks for the Atlas manual suggestion. I have not attempeted to program...

    Engine Buzz/Hum with DCC

Hi. I'm relatively new to DCC. I had purchased a number of Atlas decoder equipped locomotives, including the Trainmaster, B 23-7's, SD 35's, and a U25B. These ran very quietly on regular DC power, but now that I've switched over to DCC, there is a loud buzz or hum from the motors when starting...
