    My Miami Layout

A few months ago when my switching layout was almost finished, I thought to have a second layout would be a good idea. After seeing Lance Mindheim’s Miami East Rail layout ( http://www.lancemindheim.com ), I knew what I wanted to do. The bird’s eye view of Live Search Maps and the street view of...

NYC M-497 – Buzz Lightyear on rails

I stumbled across this jet powered Budd RDC, NYC used in 1966 to check if their tracks could handle high speed traffic. What a sight, a Budd car built for 183.85 mph. Enjoy . Dark Roasted Blend: Jet-Powered & Other Futuristic Trains. AmericanHeritage.com / Jet Train Edit: I just saw...

    My first catalog house

The Finley was a catalog house sold by the Aladdin Company in 1916/1917 ( Central Michigan University Clarke Historical Library Aladdin Sales Catalog 1917 ). Branchline Trains offers a kit of this house, but it does not really convince me and at $ 39,98 it is a bit pricey. I can scratch build at...

    Burbank Beer Distributor

I found a picture and a scale drawing for this easy to scratch build structure on Bruce Petty’s website about his LA railroad ( Modeling a Beer Distributor ). The beer distributor will be placed on the right end of my layout, so I changed Bruce’s design of a low-relief background building by...

Can anyone tell me when these tractors were built? Walthers Model Railroad Mall -- product information page for 223-1097 . Could I use them for ca. 1980 - 1985? I don’t know anything about American trucks, so I am totally lost :confused::confused:.

    Wheeler Machinery Co.

Today I started to scratch build the first building that really existed for my Downtown LA layout: the Wheeler Machinery Company. It was located on San Pedro St. near downtown LA. Here is a link to a photo of this structure, which was built in the late 1930s...

    Loksound for my VO-1000

I ordered a LokSound V3.5 decoder with Baldwin sound just after Christmas and it was eventually delivered today. Hey, it only took 2 1/2 months  . I installed the decoder in my Stewart Baldwin VO-1000. The Stewart diesels are DCC ready, that means, they have an 8pin NMRA plug. To...

Hey Deano, I got my FM!

The Walthers FM H12-44 I won on Ebay Germany a few days ago, was delivered today. I am glad that I could get one of those rare engines. It looks really sweet and is a good, smooth runner. The only thing I don’t like are the handrails – they are very thick. I think I’ll try to make new ones from...

    A mill and a warehouse

I need a structure to fill this spot on the left end of my layout to conceal the end of the world. I want to build a flour mill and a warehouse. The picture shows the outline of the buildings. To make it quick and easy, I decided to build a concrete flour mill. A mill does not need to...

    My ATSF Trix Mikado

Nearly three months ago I started to convert my Trix Mikado from NYC to ATSF. I couldn’t finish it until now, because I had to wait three months for the decals to be delivered :curse: . Santa came from Santa Fe this year …

… and brought me this Stewart FT A-B-B-A set. Unless we move to a bigger house (very unlikely) I will never have a layout with a long mainline to run a long passenger train – but who cares. They are so beautiful. I already started to detail the engines (grabs, windsreen wipers, MU hoses etc.).
