    HO layout planning help

I hope to attach a rough picture of what I am working with. The one the left is a 44"x44", the center section is 36"x88", the right is 48"x48" (overall length is 15'). The outer line represtents the wall of the room I intend on placing this in. I am building this in the three sections so I can...

    Attaching cork roadbed to foam?

    1. What do you use to attach the roadbed to the foam? 2. Is it okay to glue it with elmers or is it better to use construction adhesive? 3. If you use glue, do you tack it in place while the glue dries? Thanks, Tom

    Atlas remote switches (ho)

I think I have found my problem. It appears to be in the loco, one of the wires going to the dcc board is binding and not allowing the truck to turn completely. My LHS pointed this out to me as well as one to the wheels was not spaced correctly. Thanks for the help, Tom

    Atlas remote switches (ho)

I am having trouble with derailments on my atlas switches. When the loco runs over the switch the front truck goes through fine but the back truck follows the wrong track (it turns). Is there a known problem that I am not aware of? Is it common to add weight to the loco to hold them on the track...

    Steam loco

I have read several times that steam locos can be hard to run on tight radius turns is there a type that is better for running on 18" turns? What is the popular brands that I should look at? I have dcc and plan to buy a steam loco that has sound. Thanks, Tom

    Track wiring question?

It says on walthers site that the unit is only good for 10 switches. My question is: when I wire it up to control 2 switches at the same time does that take up two spots or one of the 10 avaliable? Thanks, Tom

    Track wiring question?

Well, it sounds as if I'm in the market for a "Compacitor Discharge Unit". Are these MR specific or can I pick one up at an electrical supply or home improvement store? Tom

Russ, This "capacitor discharge unit" would I mount it in the control box or under the layout? How much does it cost and how many would I need for 11 switches? Tom

Mason Jar, I have an extra dc power pack from one of my kids train sets. Would I be better running power from those to power the switches, or would I need something different due to dcc? Tom

    Control boxes/ panels

I am using atlas remote switches and was trying to avoid the possibility of burning them up if it can be avoided. My 6 year old will be running trains on this layout and I was hoping to make a control box that would prevent him from burning up the switches. Thanks, Tom

    Control boxes/ panels

A couple of questions concerning controls: 1 How do you control your switches push button or toggle? 2 How did you make your control box or panel? Pictures would help me if you got them. Thanks, Tom

    Track wiring question?

This is the track plan that I am wiring: So, I can run one set of 12 gauge buss wires to power the track and switches? Do you splice and solder into the buss wires at each connetion (without cutting the buss wire)or do you cut the buss and crimp a tee splice to make the connection? Thanks, Tom

    Track wiring question?

I am wiring a layout and would like to know if I could run one set of 12 gauge bus wires to power two tracks with 20 gauge feeder wires since I am using DCC? I have two continuous ho tracks running side by side. Tom

    shelf layout question

Yeah, I am leaning more towards wiring up a contol panel to control the layout. Let me get this straight: a remote switch has everything there to operated the switch and there is no need to mount anything under the table. Correct? Tom

    shelf layout question

As stated before, I have purchased atlas remote switches and was wondering if I could wire them up to my prodigy express system for control or if I would have to use a control box with toggle switches? Tom
