    smoke

I have a B-mann 0-6-0 as well, only two months old, and mine doesn't work well either. It makes pathetic thin streams of smoke before the stupid unit floods itself and stops puffing altogether. I have an old B-mann 4-8-4 that I just purchased that smokes very well.....but after I read this...

    Non-DCC control systems?

I saw a thread here a while ago that had a title about analog control or something like that, and it aroused my curiosity of non-DCC control systems. I am currently designing a layout for my little fleet of old, non-DCC engines, and would love to be able to control them together on the layout...

    One of my stranger ideas....

was that an antiquated design for that time? It looks reminiscent of the old ones like what started on early roads like the Utica & Schenectady RR here in NY, the old "Jervis-type" ones. Just as an extra historical side note; I'm not sure if anyone knew, but the first locomotive with an...

    One of my stranger ideas....

Hahaha, now now, guys.... Doc, I've seen that pewter one you're talking about (and it's not too good, you're right), but my first train-track DeLorean is much worse. Take a look at this pic; I made this one last fall out of that Sculpey clay and used regularo HO wheels. It's hideous in my...

    One of my stranger ideas....

Hey, looks like I'm about done with the DeLorean...a little rough around the edges, but it still turned out better than I thought I was gonna pull off. The N-scale wheels worked out okay, a little too small for the car, but fine all around. Seem to hold the car on the rails well, so I'm happy...

N-scale wheels...I should have thought of that, thanks! Haha, Doc, let's see how good the first one turns out first. If nothing else, I can tell you how to make the patterns for the body panels like I did...

    One of my stranger ideas....

more:The car's body is made out of aluminum flashing and the frame/platform is balsa wood. Detail will likely be balsa, also. Not sure how I want to make the wheels yet...pity the wheels off of a regular freight car or caboose are too big....

Here's a little idea I came up with that I thought would be fun to build. Anyone ever see Back to the Future III?......forgot the website I got the movie photo from....: http://www.bttfmovie.com/

Just for fun, how strong is your engine?

how do you measure an incline in percentages? I've only delt with angles in degrees before, myself. I'm not too savvy with a lot of railroad terminology and whatnot, being a newbie and all.

    Old Tyco gets facelift

Hey thanks, guys. I appreciate all the compliments. I think, after working on this train, that I may try this again with other old "cheaper" engines that I come across. I have a few NYC lightning stripes left, and was thinking of an Alco RS2 for the next project. A local hobby shop sells...

    Old Tyco gets facelift

Hey, thanks guys. The Lightning stripes and the letters are Microscale brand decals, I don't have a steady enough hand to paint those on, haha.

    Old Tyco gets facelift

Hey guys, I redid my Tyco Baldwin Sharknose diesel engine and thought I would share it. I know Tyco is an old, cheaply kind of manufactured engine, but the price was right when I saw it at the Union Station Collector's show here in Utica last month($8). E R Models makes a Sharknose in this New...

    Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 question

36 cars? Very impressive for that little 2-8-0; a lot more than I expected it would handle. Thanks for that thread, Gary!

Ignore this one, it was a duplicate. Stupid slow computer.

    Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 question

If you guys say it's a good engine, then it may well be worth a try. I was just weary about a belt-driven engine, you know, because of problems from rubber deterioration like cracking and slipping and stiffening and all that. But I'll give one a try if I come across one within my current...

    Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 question

Gary, how many cars can you pull with yours? Are new belts readily available, just in case what Andrew mentioned does indeed happen?
