    Bus Wire Configuration

I have one of those wire strippers, and that's exactly the case. On one side of the same-size hole it has stranded and on the other solid. And it's a variance of 2 - 22 solid and 24 stranded share the same hole, e.g. Personally I find solid easier to work with in every respect, and would only...

    NCE and PS Rev...

I use 4 of them with my NCE system. Easy to install, performs flawlessly.

    tortoise install...

Relax, this is no big deal. Almost all my turnouts are thrown by Tortoise through 2" foam + 1/4" plywood + 1/4" roadbed, so 2.5" depth. I also have a couple operating turnouts from as far as 6.5" below the roadbed. First you want to drill a 1/2" hole beneath the turnout throw. This will...

    limited space basement

You now what. Now I'm interested. If by some chance we can find a way to make a 3' high space work, I've just about doubled my available layout space! Mind you, I don't see any way it could happen. But I'm wrong on a very regular basis!

    3ft high? Really? That's a tough one.

    Ebay find

Now that your horse is extraordinarily dead, Jack, can we get back to talking about trains?

I've successfully used TrainNut's method too.

A Simple How To Book Explaining DCC Wireing?

Yep. The day I hooked up a Tony's PSREV to a reverse loop and drove my loco through without worrying about polarity, flipping toggles, etc. I was totally sold on DCC. My new layout has 3 wyes and 2 reverse loops. In the "good old" days, I'd never had done that and would have gone to great...

    Feeder wire question?

I'm gonna say "no problem"... I tend to think that while wiring "just so" is great as insurance and there's no harm in it, there's a lot of overkill out there in the standard wiring recommendations. I say that because as construction continues on my new layout, I have run the DCC bus, but not...

    Goofy question about affixing track...

Latex caulk is a good thing to hold track down with too. Tacky glue is just thick white glue, but should work fine too. Longer term, you'll be better off to solder any joints on a curve (before flexing the track into a curve) and then bend and affix it. That will help keep the track from...

    Doorway liftout.... HELP !!!!

Just be sure you consider all options. A lift out could itself be a problem if you have back issues - they can get surprisingly heavy real quick. Maybe consider some sort of hinged section - preferably one that swings down or sideways so you don't have to lift the weight of the thing. I know...

A question that may get you some help

Oh, I nearly forgot my A#1 request: Something that can somehow receive/intercept output from sound decoders and run it through a crossover (electrical, not literal) to put the low-freq portion into a subwoofer. I'd even be willing to buy special "broadcasting" decoders as part of such a setup.

A question that may get you some help

Yep... simple, reliable, affordable detection. And for me, using DCC, that doesn't mean "block" detection it means physical detection that a train is there. Think in terms of a hidden staging yard where you want, at least, one sensor near each end of each staging, and ideally 3+ (one at each...

    Big Boy decoder

I'm not sure why to do this. Personally, by the time I spent $300 on the Athearn and $100+ for the Tsunami, I'd just go to $500 for the Precision Craft which is, to me, a far better loco to start with...

    Intricate Model Train

Other than the passengers being bludgeoned about the car as it takes those corners at a couple hundred scale MPH or so... It's a very nice layout for a general toy store.

    Brands of Auto-Reversing Units

Several others make them. I prefer the PS-Rev from tonystrains.com -- all solid state, no moving parts/relays.

    Tunnel / Mountain question?

Light cardboard, perhaps? (I've heard it called posterboard or 'oaktag' depending on where you live). Cheap, flexible, takes paint easily...

Opinion on HO Bachmann Spectrum K4 Pacific?

Hmmm. As said before, I'm a K4 junkie so I own almost all the variations made (still haven't plunked down for a streamlined K4 which is available only in brass)... So it happens I own both (BLI and MTH) and wouldn't say BLI is mid-level compared to MTH being "best by far". Actually, I find them...

Thanks for the info. My biggest problem is remembering to grab my digital camera and take pics as I do the install. I always remember about 2/3 of the way through...

    Decoder Programming Tools

I'm a big fan of DecoderPro too. Used it on my Lens-100 set. Dramatically easier than through-the-throttle programming. Once I get the NCE setup all hooked up properly, linked in, etc. I'll use it again immediately.
