    IHC "sound" car

It has a sound unit that makes a chuff sound. The chuff is generated by one of the axles on the truck axle. It was great back in the 1980's to add sound to a steam engine. Harold

Why I Like HO Track for On30

This oversized "HO track" visually works with the smaller Bachmann On30 equipment as 3 foot narrow gauge because of the proportions. The ratio of 30" to 36" is .833. The Model Power HO track is almost to that ratio as O scale narrow gauge track. If you take a the Bachmann On30 cars you have the...

How to kitbash a steam engine?

Try the Bachmann Ten-wheeler with the small drivers. It has a similar boiler shape and small drivers. Just shorten it to a two wheel front pilot truck. Harold

    Examining the Athearn/Roundhouse Oldtime 2-8-0

The new 2-8-0 has a lower boiler and the drivers are now 51 instead of 52. The lower boiler makes a big difference in appearance. Now the modeler won't have to do the boiler lowering. Harold

    Examining the Athearn/Roundhouse Oldtime 2-8-0

Someone asked how does it go downhill? We put it on the Buck-o-meter and it will do 4% with a 1/2 pound of solder on the tender and no worm gear bucking. Harold
