    Removable Car Floors How-to?

That's the one --- I always forget the name of the Hall. I always enjoy this show because I seem to frequently stumble across something of interest that's a bit different. I think I've only missed a couple of their shows in the last 10 years. Went to the last Copetown show in the spring and it...

    Removable Car Floors How-to?

Great pics for a 'cheapie' Kodak. I think I'm going to try my daughter's cheapie Olympus and compare it to mine! Which Ancaster show are you referring to --- the one at the 'fairgrounds' or somewhere else? I always enjoy that show since I always seen to stumble upon something of interest.

    Removable Car Floors How-to?

Thanks again for the great information Wayne. I already have the Scalecoat/CN SIG Orange, so I'll give that a whirl and see how it comes out. From talking to others who have used this particular colour, apparently it needs to be toned down with some white or the end result is too bright. I've...

Thanks for the additional info Wayne. I'm not sure that Accupaint is even available anymore? Do you know?

    Removable Car Floors How-to?

What you've done with the CNR caboose floor is an excellent idea --- if you don't mind, I'm going to steal your idea and do the same on my kit. :) What diameter of screws do you normally use? You have really done an excellent job on the Sylvan kit --- I'll be happy if mine is half as good as...

    Removable Car Floors How-to?

Sorry for the confusion --- as you have guessed, I simply want to be able to remove the body from the underframe to get at the interior of the body. I will give the styrene blocks a try. BTW --- thanks for the link. Its given me additional ideas that I will tuck away for future use. I smiled...

    Removable Car Floors How-to?

To answer your question Andrew --- the two interurban cars I am building will initially be for use with DC, but I will be making the leap into DCC before the end of the year so I want to be able to easily get at the interior of the cars to install decoders at that time. I think my question...

    Removable Car Floors How-to?

I am currently making two interurban car kits and a Sylvan CNR wooden caboose kit. For all 3 of these, I would like to be able to easily remove the floors. What are some of the ways of doing this? I know that typically people use very small screws through the car floor, but are these typically...

    Kato GP35 - Noisy Drive

I have probably only run this loco 5 or 6 times since I bought it, but it has developed a real grating sound coming from one of the trucks. I think I can see what the problem is, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to take the truck off of the body so that I can get at the various...

    Gatorfoam - Canadian Source

Here is the link: http://www.alcancompositesusa.com/product_detail.html?uid=gd40c8c96ee7015 I couldn't find the specific link for samples, so perhaps these are no longer available. If this is the case, let me know and I'd be happy to send you a couple of mine since I think I have 6 or 7.

    Gatorfoam - Canadian Source

Thanks very much Bob --- this is very much appreciated. This is very close to where I work, so I will definitely make a point of picking up a sheet. I had found out from Alcan (the manufacturer) that their Toronto area distributor was in Mississauga. Although the distributor will sell direct...

    Gatorfoam - Canadian Source

Glen: Are you sure that it was Gatorfoam and not just standard form board? I've purchased foam board there several times, but I've never seen Gatorfoam. Gatorfoam has actual wood plys rather than just paper.

    Gatorfoam - Canadian Source

Thanks Andrew. I didn't realize that Alcan made this product and, as you said, they make an amazing array of composite materials. Sent them a note asking for names of distributors and I'll share this once I get it.

    Gatorfoam - Canadian Source

Do any Canadian gauge members know a source for 3/16" sheets of Gatorfoam in the Toronto area (or anywhere for that matter)? Curry's carries the 1/2" sheets, but this is far too thick for scratchbuilding walls (which is what I want to use it for). TIA

    Coffee Table Layout - Pics

Sorry about that guys --- I don't recall getting either of your requests for pics, but I HAVE been known to forget to reply in the past, so I suspect that this is one of those times! I actually put this project aside for about a year, but I am now in the process of finishing it off...

    Telephone Pole Height

What is an appropriate height to use for power poles on the mainline outside of a town/city? I'm guessing that it should be around 30 feet +/-, but what range should I stick within? TIA

Modelling Stratified Rock in N Scale

Thanks Andrew --- that is exactly the look I am going for. I think I will make a mockup to experiment with your approach before I go to the layout. 88 --- I had forgotten that MRR mag had run an article on the ceiling tile tchnique. I checked the mag index and it was in Sept 02. They also had...

Modelling Stratified Rock in N Scale

Anyone have any suggestions as to an effective technique for modelling sedimentary rock formations in N scale? I've used the ceiling tile technique with some success in HO scale, but I'm not sure how well this would work in a smaller scale. All suggestions welcome.

    New (?) product for backdrops

I used this material and you're right, it is not luan plywood. I used it in a tight radius application and it worked like a charm. Pricey if I remember correctly. BTW --- Home Depot carries the product in Canada as well.

    TTC and the CNE

I see that next Saturday (20th?), TTC will be running a Peter Witt and 2 PCC cars from Union Station to the Ex. Unfortunately, I am out of town that weekend and won't be able to go down and get some good digital shots of these cars. If anyone does plan to see/ride these cars next weekend, I...
