Would a Kato shell fit on athearn chassis?

Try J&L Train in Buckner, MO. The owner does mail order according to Bob Miller aka ATSFman on the Atlas boards. Here's a link to his stock; http://pws.prserv.net/jltrain/ho_locomotives.htm

    Robin,(Matthyro) This hurts

Robin, thank you for showing all of us what can be accomplished with creativity and cardboard. I'm saddened by this news and hope like everyone for a miracle. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. DT

It's MONDAY 1-3-05, weekend modeling accomplishments!

I got all but one of my older tank car kits built and on the railroad. I'll have to break a few teeth on working out the details for the MDC 50' Modern tank cars. The one I started the B end platform sags. DT

    Have We Become Merely Stereotypes?

Actually it's interesting to how much of the blonde woman's comments and attitude are mirrored here. Just as she didn't know if that gentleman lived with his mother and was single we have no clue how or why she got her job. Blunt and to the point here: We don't need to put her down to prove...

    Is Model Railroader lagging?

I think the November issue will show how they'll handle John Armstrong's passing. The October issue seemed to be too soon to get more than what they did. As for the rest of the MR I've enjoyed all three issues I have. One from 1977 and 3 from this year. DT

    It's Monday, weekend modeling accomplishments!

I actually have something to report!!! I attended the Turkey Creek Divisional meet near KC and had the priveledge to visit Bob Miller's ATSF layout. I also built or rather kit bashed 4 Accurail ACF hoppers. Ok maybe it wasn't a total kit bash but I did add Kadee lids to the gear box to...

    Inadequate obituary in MR

It will be interesting if MR does a longer article on John Armstrong. MR may not have had enough time before the deadline to do an appropriate article. It's 8/21 and you have the october MR. I would guess the deadline was near the beginning to middle of July. Track planning for realistic...

    Sorry Charley... I Survived!!

Glad to read that you and yours are ok. The damage can be repaired and items replaced but people can't. You've got some stories to tell and pictures to prove it. Again glad everyone is ok. DT

    Your worst layout/Train running mistakes

Mine would have to be the AHM engine that an eight year old was afraid to put the wheels in. The box had big scary instructions about how the electricity wrong would damage the motor. Thirty years later I finally put the wheels in and promptly run it off the end of the layout. I had pulled...

    Stock won't move

The most likely problem is dirty track but check to see if you have power to the rails. An automotive test light or multimeter should help you figure this out. Also look underneath and see if there are any disconnected wires. Do a search on dirty track on this webiste and you'll learn more...

    Dirty track and cleaning cars

GuyW, The short answer to your question is yes. Dirty Track and Loco wheels do run intermittenly and cleaning them is a good place to start. The simple techniques using elbow grease and paper towels/ old t-shirts are generally a good start. Personally I like MAAS metal polish which I...

Finally, my first layout - any advice appreciated...

I meant the aisle is too small because I would tend to bump into the benchwork. I think less track with a reason for it to be there might be better long term solution. If you want layout the track on the benchwork or even on the floor with tape showing your benchwork. If you still like...

Finally, my first layout - any advice appreciated...

I may a total dolt but I'm trying to help so bear with me. Could you add some of the industries or reasons that the railroad goes where it does? Then maybe the real experts on this forum could give you some insight. My first thought is maybe as less is more approch to tracks may be in order...

    Cleaning old HO Locomotives/Engines

An NMRA gage is a highly recommended piece of equipment and costs about 8-10 bucks. I use a good dish soap like Dawn to clean the old gease out but others recommend alcohol. The major piece of equipment is a good brush like a toothbush. As for reassembly I would stick with a plastic...

    RTR Freight Car(s)

I'm not enough of a railfan to notice the bulky awkward details on some brands and styles of cars. I do appreciate the fact that those more robust details stand up to the 3 pair of 0-5-0 freelance skyhooks I have around my layout. You know the cars that run/operate best on my layout? Old...
