Harold's RMC article I wanted to say that Harold's (hminky) article in the March RMC on making grass from faux fur was great. I'm glad they gave him enough space to really explain the process in detail. Great work Harold :thumb:

    Wooden match sticks?

Has anyone tried using wooden matches as beams, etc. I thought about it today when I was lighting the stove out in my barn with those "kitchen matches" It looks like they would scale out to about 8"x 8" or 9"x 9" in HO. If nothin' else they cheap, 69 cents for a box of 250. They also seem to be...

I hate it when this happens

Bumped a car and it fell off the track, off the edge of the benchwork, and took the other eight cars and the loco with it. :curse: :curse: :curse: No major damage, a few broken couplers and mad as hail.   Good thing the floor is carpeted.

    Reality check

Well I've been thumbtacking down some track and turnouts to see how my plan is go to work on the limited realestate I have. I'm discovering that 1' on the benchwork ain't the same as 1' on the planning software. I'm still trying to cram it all in there, But I may have to scale back my trackage...

    visit to "The General"

Visited the General today, the 4-4-0 locomotive in "the great locomotive chase" during the Civil war. She's housed at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw Ga. Built in 1855, she was under steam as late as 1962. That's the year she was restored by the L&N RR. Here's...

    Benchwork-Submitted for your appraisal

Here's a cross section drawing of my final design. It's cantilevered from the sloped ceiling of my attic/bedroom. The green 2x4 block lays flat against the ceiling and is the point of attachment. Attached to the 2x4 is a long 1x2 1/4" and short vertical 1x2 that ties them together. An L girder...

    PLywood or Foam?

Ha Guys, I'm headed out to get some 1x material and plywood for my attic layout. I 'll have 4 sections that are 1'x8' and two corners 1'x4'x3'. Sinse the sections are so narrow, I was thinking of using 3/8" plywood. I also cosidered using the thick foam instead, however it's not readily...

    The Plan of the day

Well, I'm still shrinking my plan to make the boss happy. Narrower the better I'm learning. I'm down to 15" shelves, but I think that's still ok space for HO. So here's the latest "plan"(unfinished), along with the last one that had the return loop.( the loop had to go) The long wall at the top...

    Southern Ry. sighting

Spotted two beat up old Southern Ry. hoppers in a CSX freight yesterday near Cartersville Ga. Almost ran off the road looking at them. They were headed south towards Atlanta and looked to be running light. I'm still wondering where they were going and why. Man, I shore miss the...

    BNSF sighting in Ga.???

While out cycling yesterday, I stopped on an overpass of a CSX line when I heard a train coming. I was shocked to see three shinny orange and yellow BNSF locos towing a coal train come around the bend. I've never seen BNSF in Ga before. Also last week I saw a freight with one CSX and one UP...

    Back to square one.

Just when I thought I was going to get away with it, the boss says my mocked-up layout is too big.(see thread below) So the turn back loops are out, and I'm left with about 16" x 18' to work with, basically a big self layout. Anyone have a good point to point plan that would fit or be made to...
