Thinking outside the box, Tackle box that is!!

I happened upon as I was rigging a fishing rod for my grandson. I thought these pretty round bobbers (floats, corks) should be good for something on the railroad. The next tine I was at Bass-Pro I picked up an assortment. The sizes I got are from left to right, 2 1/2”, 2”,1 1/2”, 1 1/4”...

    Tree experiment

I have been experimenting this week with a number of people’s way of making trees. I wound up with flower wire twisted and brown flower tape on the larger limbs and trunk. The black on the trees looks glossy because of the flash, but it is really flat black.

    Machine Making 101

Hi Gang! I bought a new Dremel 400 the other day and as I was unpacking it, being the packrat that I am, I tossed the plastic trays that the little tools were packed in on the workbench for deposit in the “Sometime Made” box later. When I got around to straitening up the bench just enough to...

    Not to scale. But

This is I believe an L&N or UP trestle that has been “beautified”. It is located in a part of Memphis called Mid-Town, the of the Yuppie area where they buy the 100 year old homes and sink big money in the updating everything. I know because my Daughter has one.

    Question on foam rubber

Questions: When cutting up foam rubber to put in a blender to make flocking, how do you get rid of the static electricity???? My wife wiped fabric-softener on her hands and it seemed to help. Now how would it be to put say a drop or two in the paint or water or whatever liquid you use in the...

    Inside Roundhouse

I found this picture in some old Union files. It is a picture of the inside of Johnston Roundhouse from about 13 stall facing 20 stall. I would guess it was taken in the early 60's, because it looked just like that when I came to work in 65. Thought some of you building Roundhouses would...

I thought I really found something!

On our latest trip last week and the first in the new GMC we rounded a curve coming out of Kinmundy Il and bam. Right in front of us was a perfectly preserved wooden water tower. We had been following a some rails for a long time I think they were Central Pacific because I saw on one of the...

    TerraServer

If you need information on the design and lay-out of a particular yard or part of the US to model this may be of some help. The attached picture is not magnified as large as it could be so the details are not as clear. I found my house and could make out the garage and the cars in the drive...

    Old Logging Movies

In the last few days I have watched a couple of movies that I think will be of interest to you Loggers. Both have some very interesting shots of logging equipment. In the Hoppy movie they have what appears to be a steam or compressed air crosscut saw sat on a tripod affair. In God’s...

How much computer do I need?

How much computer do I need? I am about to donate a bunch of old computers to the local Hi-School. If it does not take a lot of computing power to run this new remote controle equipment I may keep one.

    After 35 years of storage.

I was home alone today and so I went on a scavenger hunt. I found one box of my Railroad. This box was the everyday trains they played with. I also found some of the plastic houses and things. I thought you guys might like to see what 35 years of storage will look like. This is three...

    Foam madness.

Hi Gang! I just got back from a foraging trip to Lowes and Home Depot. It seems they don’t carry the blue or pink foam. Oh they have the thin (1/4”) but not the thick. The reason they gave was it was too fragile and the stock got broke up before it was sold. Almost word for word as if they had...

    Any one around St. Louis

Dingbat and I will be in St. Louis the weekend of the 27. Are there any shops I need to visit? Say between Memphis and the St. Louis area.

    Illusion

While visiting the Crayon Museum/factory in Easton PA, Dingbat went to the sand box and I stepped outside for a ciggy. I noticed the reflection in the windows across the street had no basis. On closer inspection I could see it was either painted or was a paper. Now if this could be miniaturized...

    For you traction people

We were on vacation and happened by Junita Shop on family day. We took the tour and took lots of pictures and we were directed to the old headquarters building. Next to it is the Service Club building where they had a lot of layouts set up. Anyway these are in glass fronted boxes. I didn't see...
