    Wal-Mart finds

Hello all, My freind and I were perusing our local Wally World's looking through the toy section when we stumbled upon some HO scale vehicles. A company called Motor Max has a line called "Fresh Cherries" that includes such Gems as the Ford Pinto, 1981 Ford Escort, 1984 Ford Tempo...

    New home,New layout, New challenges

Actually I have been trying to find an example of one to see how it loks. Unfortunately the copy of XtrkCAD I downloaded apparently does not have them in it so I had to go with the turnouts instead in doing this layout. As far as the size of the middle area. I actually had it set to 24 inches...

    New home,New layout, New challenges

In regards to the museum. I have plans to go see it at some point. Working third shift makes little trips like that exceedingly difficult at times. As to the tunnel access. The middle section at the top is actuall not in the tunnels. I purposely made sure the turnout section up there would...

    New home,New layout, New challenges

It's been a while since I have been active here on the Gauge. Been busy. I have relocated from Fletcher, NC to Tacoma, WA and bought a house with a partially finished basement. Looking to build a layout and, as usual, I have managed to find myself brimming with far too many questions...

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Well I just spent the entire night reading all 58 pages of your thread and all I have to say is what everyone else has said. You are truly an inspiration. You layout is a work of art and I am genuinely impressed. Well done sir. If the rest of this layout...no, this RAILROAD, as it is...

    Instant Roadbed

I used the AMI stuff on my old 4x8 layout and it worked ok I suppose. However I do plan to use the Woodland Scenics roadbed on my new layout I am planning. The AMI stuff never sets. It stays flexible and allows the ballast to come loose very easily. I was constantly having to patch the...

What DCC system should I buy?

I run a single mainline 4x8 layout and I use the Digitrax Zephyr system. It is extremely easy to set up and the nice thing about it is it can be programmed using the ops mode on the mainline or a dedicated programming track. Plus lots of expansion options availible like the signalling...

For those interested in sound on the cheap....

The thing to remember about these cheap decoders is that they are very basic ones. None of the fancy effects like transitioning and what not like the high end ones. I use mine for the horns and bells mostly as I find the engine sound to be terrible for my engines. It has an idle...

    Small engine repair shop: go-kart

Ok Shaygetz, I saw your shed and the first thought that popped into my head was this. I wonder if he could do an HO scale HO scale layout in there. Feel up to the challenge? :D You still amaze me with you creativity and it really inspires me to improve my modelling so...

For those interested in sound on the cheap....

Any Place that sells MRC DCC stuff should carry them. In Fact MRC actually has a new version out of these decoders that is supposed to sound better than the ones I have. As for working with Digitrax. Yes, I use a Digitrax Zephyr system with them with no problems at all.

High wheel mower w/ 24' cut...

Don't forget weed whackers as well. Those should actually be pretty easy to make, all you would need is the shape for the motor (certain brake detail parts come to mind) and a bit of wire for the long shaft with some styrene for the string guard and of course some small fishing line for the...

High wheel mower w/ 24' cut...

There ya go. Have a few Troy Built tillers or similar in that shop as well. Also, at least in my area the current Murray Lawn Mowers being sold are black now instead of red. Yet again an amazing bit of scratchbuilding.

    Layout Update...July 2004

We still have a ton of trees to make up and "plant" before I will consider the scenicing "finished". I spent most of this past night getting about 90% of the ground cover put on. Only reason I stopped was I ran out of white glue. It took me two large bottles mixed 50/50 with glue/...

    Layout Update...July 2004

The ground cover I am using is a layering of ground up green florist foam for the light green color, Woodland scenics dark green fine truf for the dark color, and the fine yelow Turf from woodland scenics to add in a bit of dead looking yellow grass. The bushes are Woodland scenics foliage...

    Layout Update...July 2004

Well the mayor of my little town had to declare an evacuation today as it seems a severe flood came through of a strange white liquid mixture. Even the trains had to stop for a while due to this gluelike substance

How to make real Chains on your handrails

Some necklace chain might be small enough. As for the choo choo clock, I honestly don't know since I have never seen one.
