Decoder in an MDC Roundhouse 2-8-0

Well, after poking and proding every permutation and combination with a VOM, there is no short that I can find. Looks like the chip is caput. Not sure if I managed to let the magic smoke out of it as I neglected to test its functionality before the installation. Luckily, it's a TCS M1 chip...

Decoder in an MDC Roundhouse 2-8-0

I'm a DCC newbie. My first decoder install on an atlas gp35 went well and after much squeezing and shaving, I've managed to install a decoder in the tender of an MDC roundouse 2-8-0. Now I seem to have developed a short somewhere. Is there a tried and true method of determining the cause of...

    Small Layouts/Diorama's With Hidden Staging!

This might help Starter's Kid. It forms the basis for my layout, though I enlarged it somewhat. You can see it .here. And I agree with billk that cassette staging is the way to go, on the starter's kid one, you could put one in where the loading bay is. There's also an article on cassette...

The retaining wall how to Belg, I used Casey Feedwater's tutorial "Stonewallin'" in the Academy as the basis for the retaining wall and portal. The only difference is that I made cardboard shapes of the wall & portal, sealed them with masking tape and then applied the plaster of of the layout...

New toys - pieces of a puzzle?

Arl: That's awedsome. I'm in need of something similar, next time your talking to your brother, could you ask him whether a similar set up would work for 1.5V grain of rice bulbs and what value resistor I might use?

New toys - pieces of a puzzle?

Mat: Guelph's not that far from you, there's Neutron Electonics on Woodlawn road. There's also an army surplus store in Kitchener that's great for electronics. Found cheap relays there to make my DC throttles with.

With the roof added...would also make a good utility shed I guess but I've still got the sand "coral" and the "thingy" that holds the sand up top. Can anyone tell me the proper names for the various sand house parts and how they get the sand up there?
