    Coupler Problem

I'm assuming that when you say magnetic couplers you mean Kadee or Kadee knock offs. Your problem sounds like a combination of track and coupler heights. What I think is happening is one coupler is rising above the other coupler and the cars uncouple. The height of coupler boxes varies from...

    Plans for custom built structures

Sorry for jumping in this kinda late. I've been using QuickCAD for structure drawings for several years. The latest project I'm working on is for a scene on the club layout. It has a church (kit built) and a few houses that are to look like they were built about the same time. I did a...

    Making concrete looking retaining walls?

Bob, Here's a closer picture of the Masonite wall. It's an earlier picture and the building at the right edge of the picture has since been moved. I used a piece of Evergreen styrene angle stock to finish off the top of the wall (I don't remember the size). It's a quick and easy way to make...

    Opinion on Walthers code 83

Several years ago, our club started using Atlas code 83 on all non-mainline track. We have around 200 feet in use and so far, we've had no problems with operations, including flange depth. George

    Making concrete looking retaining walls?

Bob, Retaining walls aren't difficult to make. Here are pictures of two retaining walls on our club layout. The first was made from sheets of cast Hydrocal, cut to fit the grade and the second is Masonite (smooth side out), painted a concrete color. George

    Woodland Scenics Question

Charles, I'm not sure I understand what you are doing. Are you laying the bandages on top of the risers? I don't see a need for that. I've seen WS inclines on a layout, but I've never worked with them. I assume the roadbed will go on top of the bandage layer. Any irregularities in the...

    Removing CA glue shine

Frank, You may have done it, but just in case you didn't - you have to shake a can of Dull Cote real well to get the stuff that makes it dull mixed in with the lacquer. George

    Springfield, MA show Juice Jacks

Bill, Thanks for posting the pictures. I was impressed with the layout too. I wanted to ask him how he disassembled the layout for travel with all those wires, but as you said, it was just too busy to ask any questions. George

    Digitrax Throttles

I have a DT 100 and a DT400. The DT 400 is all I use now. It's more user friendly for acquiring a loco, stealing a loco, or MUing. It also uses a single button for sounds like the bell or whistle rather than the two step process of the DT100. Size does matter. :D George

Thanks Val. The trees are from Scenic Express and I'm very happy with the way they turned out. I'll be adding more behind the asphalt road. George

    NMRA Module

Thanks for your comments Scott. The setback, in HO, that David was referring to is 4.5 ". That means a 9" section of track between the modules. David, I'm fortunate to have both a module group to run with as well as a club with a fixed layout (16 scale mile mainline). George
