To Solder Track Joints Or Not To Solder?

No you don't Stuart. If you solder a wire back from the joint on each section of track on the module's and connect the ends to a banana plug and the corresponding socket for the other module then you don't have to rely on the rail joiner for electrical continuity. It goes through the wires...

Help me choose a DCC system

NCE. Easy to use, very user friendly and you have all sound functions available with the Power Pro 5 amp system. Been using it since 1999 and haven't had a serious problem at all. In fact with each upgrade chip it gets easier. That's what I recommend.

How can you tell if you got the right plaster to water ratio?

It's been recommended in many articles that a good plaster to water ratio is 2 parts plaster to 1 part water. Let the plaster absorb the water then mix. You can use this ratio for pouring rock castings.

    Nce Help

Yes they have a computer interface. Right now it's on the Power Pro 5 amp and 10 amp systems on the Command Station. They also have the BD20 block detectors for use with the AIU01 NCE2 which is the computer interface card. You can use this as a stand alone system. NCE will have the new...

    speed limits in yards

Then there's the railroads that operate their entire trackage as 'yard limits'. These usually don't exceed 25 mph. Most common yards are 10-15 mph. Hump yards probably less than 5 mph because of the 'pin puller' job which is walking speed for a human or 2 mph. But you would really have to go...

    DCC friendly turnouts

Why not Atlas? I use them and have no problems at all. They are now DCC ready and they have a dead frog that can be powered. That means you don't have to use insulators if you don't want to on the rails from the frog. (Unless the turnout is used at a signal boundary). I use the brown tie 500...

    Third Rail

Ok I'll take this the other direction. I think he's talking about the 3rd rail inside the two outside rails. That right JH? Is it off set from the other rails? Closer to one rail than the other? Or is the rail your talking about actually sit outside the 2 tracks elevated a little? If that...

    Key Imports Brass

I have an old New Haven Key 2-8-2. It runs like a watch. Better than the Custom Brass engines out of the box. You really can't go wrong. You can always change the motor if you need to. The nice thin about my Mike is that it comes with a cam. It's in the paint shop now and soon to get a...

My newest scene - Abandoned steamer

Looks good!!! Here's a thought. Why not run some pipes to it and to the building. That way you could say this was once used as a stationary boiler for the building. Put the pipes right into the steam dome.
