Not to mention the taxpayers who have to pay for all those trucks using the road. And yes, truckers do pay taxes on the highways but not nearly as much as the railroad pays for its infrastructure.
I think Norske would ship with RailAmerica again if CP was gone. CP forces RailAmerica to interchange with them at Vancouver, after cars are interchanged with CP, they are left in Coquitlam for weeks on end. With CP out of the picture, RailAmerica could rebuild the spur into Norske's Crofton...
RailAmerica has annouced they are shutting down the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway in early 2005 due to continued loss of freight traffic. The E&N has been experiencing a decline in freight traffic since they lost the Port Alberni Pulp Mill in late 2001. This does not mean that the E&N will be...
Yep.

Old Rock Island grain hopper, seen here in the yard at Victoria.
Two E&N GP38's ready to leave Victoria.
VIA 6133 in the yard.
More shots of 6133. This is probably the last time 6133 will be in Victoria as it is supposed to be send east for scrapping soon.
Good as...
The E&N Railway is supposed to be getting a pair of SW1500's to replace the two GP38's as the lease for the two units expires at the end of the year. The SW1500's are ex-Southern Pacific and are currently working on the Central Oregon & Pacific. Glenn Migneault, VP of the E&N Division has been...
VIA 6148 will be repaired. It will be out of service for 3-4 weeks while they hack up the 6133 to repair it. For the mean time RDC1 6135 will be handling the passenger trains. When the freight crew brought 6148 back today it looks as if they had to cut the gravel truck free.
The other...
VIA RDC 6148 collided with a loaded gravel truck near Chemainus, BC yesterday around 10 in the morning on the northbound trip, completely destroying the cab on the lead end of the car. Engineer managed to get out of the cab before the collision, and some passengers recieved minor injuries. VIA...
Unfortunately style has given way to practicality. Hood locomotives, with easy to access parts for fast repair, that are cheaper to build than a carbody locomotive like an E or F unit. Not to mention that the carbody locomotives are a pain in the a** if you have to make a long reverse move.
Yay, Baldwins!!!!!! I'm too young to remember seeing them in person but they revolutionalized railroading on Vancouver Island, CP used them to dieselize the E&N in 1949. They lasted until the mid-1970's when they were replaced by GP7's, GP9's, GP30's, GP35's, GP38's and SW8's.
My second...
The E&N Division of the Canadian Railroad Historical Association could be getting a two-truck shay and a Whitcomb 90-tonner from the BC Forest Discovery Centre who is currently expanding their narrow guage operation and needs to get rid of some of the standard guage equipment. The Shay is Mayo...
They came down light, leaving the rest of their train in Duncan so they could couple onto the flat car and go in about 10 minutes without having to waste time running around their train. They had to be back at Wellcox in Nanaimo before the Budd Cars left Nanaimo headed south around 3:30.
Yesterday, the E&N Railway GP38's pick up the empty flat car that the transformer came down from Nanaimo on. They left the rest of their train in Duncan and came down light. This shot shows them ready to leave the Langford siding in Victoria. They were just a wee bit overpowered too, 4000 hp for...
I was up island on Thursday and caught this transformer sitting on a CNR flat car in the Wellcox yard. It was spotted on the Langford siding yesterday, and the ENR freight crew should pick up the flat car on either Monday or Tuesday. This is the first freight movement to Victoria since November...
