derailing prob - need track finetuning tips

Try not to have a TO just after a curve, as the locomotive is forced into a tighter radius turn than if the TO is in the middle of a straight. The front of the loco, particularly a 6 axle one will be entering the TO while the rear is still on the curve, hence the tighter turn.

    Intermountain Tunnel motors

Not heard that they have any running problems, but don't buy ones from the first batch released, these had some hefty shell issues. Warped walkways, glued together, rivets the size of tennis balls etc. I'm told these have been corrected in the later releases, so should be a good buy.

    Help about Calgary

Just back from Calgary, and it's a great place for trains :) Mike H's layout is amazing, and he was kind enough to show me around, thanks again Mike :) David is indeed correct about the action on 9th Ave. I saw several GE units there and tonnes of freight cars all easily photographed. If...

    Project CPR Selkirk T1

Looking good David. Thanks for the info re the real thing, I was able to get some photos of it last week, and should be getting them developed today. I see Del Prado has offered the Royal Hudson as a static display model, do you have any plans to make one of these too ?? :D If so the Del...

    Project CPR Selkirk T1

Thanks David, all I hope is my camera works at those low temps :) Actually the icebox experience is part of the reason I'm visiting in Jan, I'm hoping to emigrate in the next few years, and I thought it best to at least know what the weather was like at it's worst before commiting myself...

    Project CPR Selkirk T1

David, that Selkirk was coming on a treat, one of the best scratch builds I have ever seen, it would be a shame for it to go on the back burner. http://japanese-model-supplies.com/ might be able to find you a second hand E10, although I've never dealth with them, they do claim to be able to get...

    Have We Become Merely Stereotypes?

Very true Graham, that's one of the reasons I'm hoping to move out of the UK too. While I'm not into freezing to death on a platform end collecting loco numbers, I can't see any harm in it, it's no worse than golf or fishing, both of which involve standing around freezing too!! ;)...

Positively summery then ;) If it is I should be ok having worked in an industrial freezer before which was at -24, and survived that without resorting to wearing furs! :)

    Edmonton and Calgary.

rockislandmike: Thanks for that, I'd love to go and get some photo's of real trains but I guess that'll depend on the weather. Don't fancy standing around waiting for a train if it's -51C as I'm told it was last Jan :) 60103: I'll have to see if it's going through and have my camera handy...

    Atlas code 55 Specifics

Mike is right re Peco 55 working with "pizza cutters" without problems. The code 55 rail is simply the code 80 rail laid deeper in the ties, which makes it quite stiff, and thus holds curves better.

    Edmonton and Calgary.

Thanks for that David, since I won't have a car for the week, I'm sure I will be using the light rail a fair bit. By land cruise trains, do you mean the Rocky Mountaineer etc ? I'd love to get some photo's of that as I'd like to model it in N some day. Simon

    Edmonton and Calgary.

Hi All, :) I'm going to be in Calgary and Edmonton for a few days in January next year, basically splitting a week's vacation between the two. What is there to see and do train related that is open in Jan. I realise the rail museum will be closed, :( but since the trip is to see what both...
