    Magnet

If you want a really strong magnet find an old hard drive and take it apart. The magnet in them are super strong. I have one which, while I don't use it for uncoupling, used it to find screws in the drywall when I moved the wall. I was able to reuse the drywall and save some money. I also...

    An "old" Photograph

Makes me wonder that if a black and white photo of a model looks more realistic than the colour version does that maybe mean that when we model we're not getting the colours quite right?

    To the Canadian members

Here's my experience for what it's worth. If you ship UPS ground you will get charged brokerage fees. I haven't yet been charged brikerage by anyone else but I'll watch purolator for sure now. I've shipped FedEx (international economy) several times and always payed $7 + gst.

Who or What Got You Started?

A criminal act got me started. I almost died! Ok I'm exadurating. It was when I was at school when I was about 11. Someone set fire to one of the classrooms. I was in the classroom right above it. Anyhow, due to all the smoke and flames everyone who lived near the school got sent home...

    Another crazy electronics project

I've heard of people making DCC uncouplers before. They used mussle wire, which contracts when a current is passed through it, to pull the knuckle. They just hooked up the mussle wire to one of the function outputs on the decoder.

    Any Electronics Wizzards out there?

Actually you wouldn't even need to do that. All you'd need to do is take the first 5V (5.6V if you include the drop over a shockley bridge rectifier) to run the electonics making sure that the motor doesn't run if the track voltage is less than 5.6V. If the power pack can deliver 18V then...

    Any Electronics Wizzards out there?

Seeing you said you wanted to run electonics of the 5V then you'll need a bridge rectifier (or 4 diodes to make a bridge rectifier) otherwise the 5V will flip polarity every time you change direction which at the lesat will stop the electonics from working when backwards and at worse destroy...

    Help with computer

I'd look into software first. I'd uninstall anything that you've installed around the time that it started happening. Preferably uninstall (or stop running) anything that starts up with windows. An even better solution would be to format the hard drive and reinstall windows then you're back...

    I am in deep kimchee

Make sure the fan is pluged in properly. most computers are clever enough not to do anything if it senses that it doesn't have a fan. Also try reseating the memory although it should do something if it's not in right it won't always.

    Designing Easements

I just do the layout design using 1" larger radius curves than I'm actually planning to use. Then I have plenty of room to fit the easements in when I actually lay it. When I draw it out for real I always draw the straight track 1/2" out from the curve. and make a mark between the two. I...
