Any interest in yet another layout being built?

Matthyro. it's good to hear that someone else is using the system. If you look at the facia board in the general view of the backscene, you will see that there is a switch associated with each dowel. I did try a sliding switch physically coupled to the dowel but it reduced the reliability...

Any interest in yet another layout being built?

Hi Rich. You push and pull the rods. There are stops in the form of those cable fasteners, one each side of the facia. It is simple and very reliable. Hi Tyson. I did try throttle/choke cables. I much prefer the rods. Simpler to install and to get working properly and even cheaper. Hi...

This is a close up of one section. I am adding detail just in front of the back scene to blend it into the layout.

Since there was no interest in my fabulous mechanical points operation system:( ;) I will try something else. I have made progress with the back scene. Hand painted....with a brush and water colours. This is an overall view.

Any interest in yet another layout being built?

Another decision I made, based on previous experience and of course to save money, was not to use electrically operated points, but to use a mechanical method instead. The method I chose, was to use 8mm doweling, running in white plastic clips. The type used for TV cable. They have a round...

    Any shops in London?

Try this web site http://www.peco-uk.com/peco_frm.htm If you have a problem, just go to the peco home site and follow the links to the London map. They show zillions of shops, not all in central london, but some would be on the tube.

    bushes

Hi Tom. Glad you are having fun. I get my sawdust from a furniture making factory and they have different 'grades' and colours of sawdust . We have a wood here called Jarrah, which naturally has a lovely red colour. Coarse Pine sawdust, with grey paint makes good ballast. I find the...

If you cannot make ground up foam and don't want to buy any, use fine sawdust instead. Add a very small quantity of yellowy green water based paint to an old plastic container...yougurt/margarine/icecream. Sprinkle a little sawdust on the paint. Now the fun bit. Use your fingers to mix...

    Another New Layout

Great idea Paul. Love to keep up with your progress. How about sending some pictures to IKEA? They might send you a freeby, or better yet, design a kit specifically to showcase model dioramas.:D

    steam engines?

Billk beat me to it with thw Smart A## answer.:( :D You could always have a small coal fire in the layout room to give that authentic smokey atmosphere to the whole layout. Great smell you get on a platform with a canopy, when a loco goes slowly past, belching smoke and steam.
