    Checking In

A lot has happened over the last year, nearly all of which is what kept me away from the hobby and the forums. But now that things are beginning to gel, I have once again been able to give some attention to my all but forgotten layout and stop by the forums in which I used to be a regular - just...

    I'm losin' it!!

A couple months back I lost my job and all that entails. For a while, during my job searches, I worked hard on the layout and made some real nice progress, but since then the money has dried up and my outlook is quite grim. I've begun to notice I have NO interest in my trains AT ALL. I haven't...

    P2K Drive Shaft Failure

Driving the E8 'round the layout this morning and suddenly there was a grinding sound followed by it slowing to a crawl. Upon closer inspection I found part of the front drive shaft had snapped off and was laying there just spinning. I've included a picture for your viewing. Anyone got a part...

    Just in case anyone noticed....

I've been gone a while, but have happily stuck my nose back in once more. A lot has happened over the last two weeks. Not the least of which is I lost my job, spent a week in the looney bin, and have spent the last week trying to find work. I've also begun to rebuild the BRL layout #2. I...

    Foam Subroadbed

Benchwork is completed and I've all the 2" foam subroadbed I need. Now I must decide whether or not to add a 1/4" layer of plywood or hardboard between the foam and the benchwork. I simply don't see the need for it and would prefer to skip it. Yes - if I need to install something (turnout...

    Deleted??

Proudly, I added a post to the Track Planning forum area last night. Today I find that it's gone. Sorry to have bothered you "experts" with my puny little design again, but deleting it was rude.:( I'll be back after I build something more to your standards.

    I've a Dilemma

I've a dilemma to solve. Seems my wife has pretty much decided to move her office out of the upstairs to the guest bedroom. The apparent end to sleep-over visitors not withstanding, this affords me an opportunity to expand the layout further than expected. So I spent a couple hours making a...

    Industry Component Ideas

I've been working on my layout design and I believe I'd like to put some kind of mining or similar industry in the below yellow circle, but know nothing about it. Can you guide me specifc to buildings, structures or other things that would be required to make it look okay? For the record... HO...

    Non Athearn SD40-2

I would really like an HO Norfolk Southern SD40-2 made by someone other than Athearn, but cannot find one anywhere. Is there such an animal?

    Layout Mod

Here's what I've come up with. It's basically the same layout I've already built (and am about to destroy), only a bit larger thanks to my increasing from 4x8 to 5x9 and going with a foam top. While I like it just fine, it's just not blowing me away. I know I'm limited because of my table...

    Thomas & James

Thanks to Shamus and his camera tutelage, here is my first use of his settings. Lighting will be addressed in the future, but this ain't bad for the first shot!

    F-Stop It, Shamus

Hi There - I've got the same camera as you - C700 UZ - and have (with help) figured out how to set the f-stop to 8 and the shutter to 1/30 per your suggestion. BUT - to do that I have concluded I must set the A-S-M value to "M", which then apparently forces me to also manually focus on the...

    All Aboard!!

We just returned from a vacation in Walt Disney's brainchild and would like to share this photo with you. I believe they said it was built in 1909. Now, I may not be a steamer but this loco is a pretty sight and has a whistle to split your ears.

    Rock Faces - part Deux

Please visit my site and click on "layout pics". At the bottom of the page is the latest stage of my stratified rock molds/water fall construction. Next in line will be to add an india ink wash, a hint of tan here and there for contrast, and white dry brushing for highlights. That will be next week.

    HobbyLand Comes Through

As a tryout I recently placed and order with http://www.hobbylandinc.com and it arrived a few days later with some discrepancies in both price and product. :( After writing them about my problems, Doug responded with a commitment to not only credit my card, but to also send the missing items...

    New Rock Faces

After a month of no modeling I decided to get back to work a bit. Latest effort is the west side ceiling tile rock faces and foam waterfall. Here is a link to a page containing the stage one pics of this adventure. http://www.moctezuma-us.com/bonkyrail/content/rocktiles.htm

    LENZ Decoder CVs

I thoroughly enjoy the Lenz 1024W for its smooth running in my switcher, but am totally confused, and maybe disappointed with the CV assignment. Here's what I want to do. white LED front headlamp on while traveling forward yellow LED I've mounted in the cab roof should blink as a double...

    Modern Equipment

Can you guys fill me in on the loco companies/makes/models that comprise today's currently manufactured lines? I'm just real curious what Rail Lines would be buying if they stopped into the Train Dealer to buy new equipment. Yard Switchers Line Switchers General Purpose Freight Special...
