    CPR Visit - Thanks Interurben

I would like to thank Chris for organizing an exciting afternoon at the McCowan CPR yard. It was good to meet fellow Gauge members and our CP tour guide, John D., did an amazing job. I can say that it was a very eye opening and informative (and FUN!!!:D) experience. Here are some pics from...

    Dark of the night

Shamus, what's the wattage on those bulbs? I guess they're fairly small for such a long exposure time. (Of course I say this not knowing much about photograhy):) :)

    Metal Densities

And then there's the price to consider... Gold $285/oz Platinum $450/oz Lead $500/ton Uranium(U3 08) $10/pound These are market prices. I imagine it's pretty tough to get any uranium. You'd have to order a few pounds of it to get that 'bulk' price.:D

Good Idea and Expand on it???

Charlie, I've been thinking about the problems with the different eras as well. I'm good with either the single industry(newspaper is a good one) or conglomerate theme. Stealing your idea (font type and all):D I came up with three newspaper logos representing turn of the century (20th) to...

    post your logo here

Sorry 'bout the temporary dyslexia  . I noticed that just after I posted it. (Please don't make me re-post it!:) ) Guess I'll start having to use my disclaimer. (DISCLAIMER: all speling mistaks are intentional.)

    post your logo here

Here's a couple for your consideration. I've gone with a little bit of colour and some 'older' looking fonts for the text.

Good Idea and Expand on it???

This sounds like a good idea. The industry/building being modelled could be linked with an appropriate type of rolling stock both using the common logo. (I'm thinking of maybe a brewery ;) Think of the slogans!) As for the "contest" part you could have a separate category for buildings and...

    Highway Underpass

I agree with Gary's dimensions for roads. Typical lane widths vary from about 10' to 12' wide depending on their use (ie rural vs. freeway). As for clearance, today's standards are about 15' to 16' feet for modern 'bridges'. To round it off in HO scale 1.5" per lane and 2" to 2.25" clearance...

    Questions for the pros...

I was in your shoes a year ago. Pulled out the 'old' train set... hooked it up... threw it back in the box. I live just north of Toronto (Ontario, Canada for everyone else), and have started modeling CP and CN '50-'60s era. Having said that, I find that Proto 2000 offers the best selection...

    Diesel acceleration

I've got two Tech4 260s and they work like a charm. Never had a problem with excess viabration on any of my engines. (IHC 4-6-2 Pacific & 2-6-0 Camel Back, Spectrum GP-30 and LL Proto 2000 GP-9). I use both methods 2 and 3 depending on how fast I want to accelerate. As for realism, I'm...
