The signs are great, I can't think why someone would want to censor posts containing them. Stu

    What's with all graffiti?

Whilst it won't be on my railroad I do think that the true graffiti has a place in society. By true graffiti I don't mean the mindless tagging and destruction of preprty, but artists doing work in allowed area's. In Leicester, UK, a few years a go a huge fence was put up a round a...

    Getting Started in Model Trains

What do you define as young? I was 25ish I think when I started and have always found it rather helpful - even if time and other interests mean that my railway is taking a little longer than I would have prefered to build... Stu

    Greater Raleigh Railroad has begun

Stupid Question (Applogies) Looking you your pics I have just seen the best method to get my layout sorted now the bad weather has returned to Holland (3 months of really hot weather turned to cold rain in a matter of hours) and I'm not going to be working on my outdoor hobbies... The...

    I have started construction

I use cork for mine, it's not the easiest thing I have ever worked with, but then I am also learning as I go along - but it looks okay and wasn't too expensive. As for cars: cork is used to make gaskets for the sump / rocker cover etc. Stu

    Anyone interested

Okay, gonna show my complete lack of knowledge now.... Would these things be the 'Big Boys' that were used stateside, with boiles that long that the wheels are articulated? If so, and to be honest even if not, I'd love one of these to go on my layout once I start on it again when the...

Building the 'new' Setagaya Japanese layout

That just look s simply superb. Putting my effort (slowed down a little due to good weather - other projects to do) completely to shame. I'll be too ashamed of the finished result to post! Stu

    Grip Issues

Hey people, well after some time not being able to do much due to time constraints I finally started building the frame that will support my raised track. As I don't have the room to reduce the grade that much I have managed to get it to about 5 or 6%, and the train *just* seems to cope with...

    Grip Issues

Thanks people, I'll have a look (either this evening, or over the weekend and see what I have - off the top of my head I'd say I have maybe a 10% climb, guess I'll have to look at doubling the length of the climb and see if that works...... Stu

    Grip Issues

Hey People, Okay, got my layout sorted (all track required that type of thing) and am now starting to sort out the landscape a bit. Problem is trying to get the train up the hill to the upper level. I currently have a 1/2 meter section of track rising to about the height of 1 1/2 trains...

    First peices......

Wow, that's quite a layout - I don't think my first attempt will get close to that! My modeling skills are not that great yet - neither are my layout designing skills..... Stu

    First peices......

Shamus you are correct! The thing I didn't like about the Fleischmann track was that it was already mounted on a base, much the same way that Marklin C track is. As I want to vary the look under the rails around the track, and I like the 'bare' track, I decided to go for the Minitrix. As...

    First peices......

Hey People, Well firstly, thanks for all the help last week. I went shopping at the weekend, found a really helpful shop in Badhoeverdorp (Near Amsterdam) and traded in my old HO stuff. The set I have started with is a Minitrix set, one engine, a few wagons, and a reasonable amount of...

    More questions - sorry

Been reading up on the net about n scale, and came across something that is (possibly) going to make me happier. I've read that with n-scale it doesn't matter what starter set I go for as all trains will run on the same track. As my only experience is with HO scale Marklin C track, which...

    New to this

Thanks for all the info guys. Looking at everything said, and my experiences from spending too much needless money on HO here's my new plan.... Start small, from the sounds of it I can get a good small layout in N scale. Probably a shelf type layout, with a small station (Hoofddorp, NL)...
