    Clubs and Clinics...

Although not exactly a club, our NMRA division has two to three clinics at each of our Meets (open to the public). I can say that I personally have learned something I didn't know at every clinic I have attended. I highly recommend an effort like this. Not only do the attendees learn, but...

    It really hit home

Our paper carries 'For Better or Worse' in the comics section. In the strip, he is a model railroader and she now owns a gift/hobby shop. Yesterday and today (Friday/Saturday) I watched as one customer distracted the clerk while another removed a locomotive form a showcase. Today, the theft of...

    Bad Kitty

No picture, but after rebuilding the oldest section of my layout three times, I covered all of the ways to enter the layout area (in the basement) with wire fencing and made a folding wire fence door. Suki (the cat) loves a specific area and I love the cat. So, I had to fix it so she can't get...

    What is the origin...

Yes, the Chessie symbol was 'Chessie' the kitten from the C&O. At one time 'Chessie, the railroad kitten' was the most recognized railroad symbol in the U.S. Then came 'Peake' her old man. They went off to war together during WWII. With the decline of railroad passenger service, Chessie went...

    Rookie Turnout Query

Basically correct. You can make a spring loaded device to hold the points against either rail and change the turnout with your finger, but I found that to not work well if you throw the turnout very often. I have replaced a number of my Atlas switch machines with either tortoise under the table...

    Making the old new again

I have one of the Twin Power power packs that I have replaced with newer power packs. As mentioned, I use the old pack for other uses than throttle control because it just doesn't handle the new locos well. Invest in something new. You won't regret it. Roger

Second (and last) NYC/Big Four Caboose Drawing

I have just put up the second Big Four Caboose drawing. This one is the smaller center cupola version used from 1925 until replaced with the steel caboose in the 40s. The Big Four was the CCC&StL, a New York Central subsidiary. http://madisonrails.railfan.net/lewman_drawings.html...

    NYC Big Four Caboose Drawing

No, I don't. As I recall, the only drawing of a bobber that I saw was in the NMRA Bulletin many years ago (my memory could be wrong on that) and nothing since. Sorry. Roger

    NYC Big Four Caboose Drawing

Good morning, afternoon or evening, I have just added a modeling drawing of an early Big Four caboose to my 'Railroads of Madison County' website. Maurice spent many years with the Central and after asking me if I was a modeler, sent me two caboose drawings. The early version is the...

    Silver Streak

It was supposed to be an Alco. And, yes, they used their 4 axle trucks under it. They did put their 6 axle trucks on their Super 640. That loco was never made either. Hey, it was Tyco. It was a toy. Any resemblance between that and a GE is purely coincidental. Tyco called it an Alco. Roger

    Silver Streak

Oops, almost forgot. You can pick up a lot of information about Tyco products at: http://www.trainweb.org/tycotrains/ Roger Roger Hensley rhensley_anderson@juno.com == http://cid.railfan.net/eci_new.html == == East Central Indiana HO Scale Railroad ==

    Silver Streak

That Tyco model was an Alco 630. Parts of it were quite correct. Enough so that many people used it as the basis for customizing. Roger Roger Hensley rhensley_anderson@juno.com == http://cid.railfan.net/eci_new.html == == East Central Indiana HO Scale Railroad ==

    Photos of Layouts

From time to time, I read where someone wants to know where to find photos of layouts. There are many places that layouts can be found on the web, but there are a couple places that are easy to find. One is the NMRA Directory at http://www.nmra.org/directory/ where you can follow the...

November Model RR Month follow up

Thank you. We try. All of us on the CID Board love the hobby and want to share it with anyone who might be interested. That's the only way to see it grow. :-) Roger Hensley http://cid.railfan.net/eci_new.html

November Model RR Month follow up

Some time back, I posted a message about National Model Railroad Month and some ideas about what could be done for it. This is my follow up on what we (Central Indiana Division, MWR, NMRA) have been able to do so far. As a division, we held our `Free' National Model RR Month meet in...

    Lost Caboose

How long have you been Model Railroading?

And the replies so far show that model railroaders are both young and old and are fresh starts and old ducks (quack, quack). Good thread! Roger
