    Curtis Steel

Some of you will remember my old steel mill. I have decided to rebuild and expand it. First off a new coal dumping shed for the Anderson coke plant which is going through some changes. You will see I am using my favourite building material. Next step will be interior painting then the roof.

Train wreck on my N gauge MAT

Wrecks like this one happened when I was thinking of something else. I had unplugged the loconet cable from the MAT and plugged it into the Georgetown Sub not remembering that I still had a consist of two analog GP 40 locos sitting on the track coupled to a forty car train. When I turned my...

    A Fathers Day Gift

I was very lucky to get a 17 minute helicopter ride over Toronto to help celebrate Fathrs Day. The fist photo shows the helicopter. The lady was another passenger. I was lucky enough to sit in the left seat next to the pilot so could see what he had to do to fly this machine. I also had a view...

    A single stall engine house

I wasn't going to post step by step photos of this structure as Mikey and I had done so previously, but I am using wood for this building and am building it like a model airplane that I built dozens of when I was into flying them. The procedure is similar in that I drew a wall plan on paper...

    50 Ton Coaling Station

This is to go with the half tank. I have a depth problem to figure out with this so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

    Half a Tank

OK I just don't have room on the Georgetown Sub to put a full size water tank near the loco servicing area so I am going with a half one which goes against the backdrop. I hope when you look at it that the eye will trick you into believing that it is all there. Much like the Georgetown staion...

    Geirgetown Sub part 2

Georgetown Sub part 2 Today I made the L shaped frame work using the old L shaped beams. Added legs then a 1/2 inch plywood surface and covered it with 1/2 inch white foam. Added skyboard which is 1/2 inch chip board. The overall size is 4ft on one leg and 7ft on the other. This is in...

    Georgetown Sub

Here is the track plan I have come up with which is in "gasp"HO. It is to satisfy the challenge I have been given by Val(spitfire) and Johnathan(Catt!) to try my hand at HO. It is L shaped and made up with one 4ft. by 2ft. module and one 5ft. by 2ft. module which gives me an L that is 4ft. on...

    My new Shay

My Atlas Shay arrived today from Fifer Hobbies. I have had a close look at it and wonder if I can convert it from N gauge to Nn3. There has been some discussion on this in the Nn3 forum elsewhere but so far, nobody has actually tried it. I do need a standard gauge loco for my logging area so...

    First try

I need a number of logging cars for my Nn3 area. The trucks are archbar. The wood is known as white wood here. It is harder than pine but not as hard as maple. To me this first one looks too high. It turned out that way to allow the trucks to negotiate the tighter radius in my logging track...

Transfer Dock for my dual gauge track

I need a platform so goods and materials can be transferred between regular and narrow gauge trains. Regular gauge is N scale and narrow gauge is Nn3 I started by making the roof trusses and they are GASP!!! made of wood, not cardboard. I got a new Ryobi bandsaw that was on sale at HD. It...

The nominated posts have been moved to the Academy with one exception. That is the Quinn Ball Bearing factory as this is still being constructed and will be added to the Academy when this project is complete.

    Water Treatment plant.

Steam locos needed water more than anything. Most water stops have been abandoned in this diesel era but even they need water at times. Tha following structures were made from plans in the Kalmbach books on easy to build structures. These are N gauge and are made from cardboard and painted...

    When N gauge seems huge

I have been laying 3ft. narrow gauge track for my logging area (Nn3 z scale) Going back to working with N gauge track has been really interesting because it no longer seems small to me. Much easier to work with. Who would have thunk it EH!
