Modeling software and how to create my own models

Hi All,

I browsed the forum looking for something similar to this but I couldn't found it.
I'm a newbie in the papercraft modeling and I don't want to be just a consumer of other's work. I was wondering how can I create my own models.
So far I have only found pepakura Designer and Metasequoia for modeling creation but I can't find the HOW.
Could someone here please provide some light on how can I create my own models?

it requires a lot of work, I am also starting metasequoia, try you tube for some great tutorials, go thru them some are junk. practice a lot. and keep asking.

Thanks for the info. @spaceagent-9, the issue with metasequoia is that I still not understand how to transition from the 3D model to the pieces on a paper...
I'll keep investigating and I understand that this is like a new career as Designer lol

I could not make a box with Metasequoia. I am not sure I am even spelling it right. I recommend Rhino3D 5.0. Very Intuitive. I made these, they all unfold:

@zathros: The 1:24 scale model of the Blackbird is 13" long which is about 7.92 m in reality. :)

Sergio, if you did get Rhino, I would be most willing to get you started. There are many (billions it seems) of tutorials on Rhino hosted on YouTube :)

I haven't yet, very busy weekend over here. I'll be finishing the X-Wing Starfighter from UHU02 today or tomorrow and I will have to create a post about it. so the training will have to wait. but I'm following the tutorials from D-WHALE and it's looking good so far

I'm a Blender user and quite fine with it (excited, after several years using it just discovered the power of making the components objects! [visualize hand slap on own head]). Recently though, I was at a local maker meeting and someone there showed me how to use "SolveSpace" (add the .com for the URL). I wouldn't recommend it for papermodeling, but this thread is in the alternative materials vein, and it does seem like a good alternative to other expensive CAD programs if you are running your own 3d printer or other cnc equip. There's a free version under Gnu Public License.

I wish there was a "poor man's" version of Maya. Maybe require a well known doctors note. That would really round out what I have. :violin:
