Star Wars A-Wing Fighter SF-Papercraft Gallery

Hi together,
it is a hot summer here in Austria. Therefore I mostly spent my time outside. But now I could not hold. As the Viper is not ready for launch yet, I started another cool fighter.

It is the A-Wing from Star Wars. (papercraftsquare).

It looks like to be a fine model and consists of 5 sites including a stand.

This is the most detailed model of this fighter which I found in the net.
We´ll see how it comes together.

Nice choice Starbuck! I've built this one & came out very nice! For the "flimsiest" of the rebel fighters this one survived the devastation caused by the movers!

(X-Y&B wings all got destroyed) It's a very sturdy model!

@freddyman ; Mine's picked up a few dirty finger prints, I'm sure I can "tweak" them to look like weathering & dirt

@ guns - yes I saw that the pieces are rather small.
Thx to all for the cheering words.

So next pics - I used also a commercial model (DeAgostini) as a reference, but the attached description is good, so
I just used for a second check.

As can be seen at picture 3 this part was a little bit tricky. So I would suggest to use an enforcement on both sides to be sure
that the parts fit together. It is not that bad, as the guns will hide most of it, but to get a good model it has to be corrected.
(I will do it later on and will print the broken part again an glue it above the actual one.)

Excellent model. By happenstance I am busy upscaling this model to 1:18 to match the X-Wing size and adding details such as the cockpit etc. Now for a really Star Wars question, how does the canopy on this one open? I can't find any reference to this anywhere!! Please help anyone who knows!

@legal01, according to the classic game X-Wing the canopy slides backwards, sadly you will need the DOS version to see it. Here's a pic though. If I recall we only see the A-Wing in flight in ROTJ. (Sorry the pic isn't bigger, this a DOS game after all!

Ho, I am a litte bit astonished. - How should it slide backside? The canopy ends directly with the part where the deflector shield generator is mounted. At the LEGO model the canopy opens like shown below - which is more realistic for me. But I am not an expert.

This is how the Hasbro version handles the canopy.

IF it is a sliding canopy, wouldn't it be more logical if the front glass slides forward just like on the Buck Rogers Thunderfighter?

(BTW, we may write JJ Abrams a letter asking him to incorporate a hangar scene with some old-fashioned A-Wings and open canopies to be sure; just imagine, in the end these are hinged canopies which open to the sides.

)
