Udon's LM @ 1:96

Hi to all, it is long time that i didn't share something in this forum.
But I didn't have many things to share, because I had had a long pause period in modeling.
Now i completed a project that i started in november of 2013 (!). Then i liked to build a model of the Apollo Lunar Module starting from the Udon's model, but scaling it down (from 1:48 to 1:96), and improving the general appearence, putting on some golden foil. This was a peculiar characteristic of that machine, giving to it a so strange and alien aspect. It was projected to fly in vacuum like no other spaceship.
During the making process, I ecountered many problems, but i always tried to build everything with paper. I had to find the appropriated way to build some particular, too weak at this scale, like the ladder and the supports of the flame-deflectors. Here I used the cyanoacrilic glue for strengthen the parts.

And finally here some pictures of the model completed.

I designed also a small astronaut.

I don't know if I'll add this particular and if i have to reproduce the lunar soil. Any suggestion is welcome.

Here the link to a web album with the history in pictures of this loooong project.

Best, Nando :)

Fantastic. Great detail for such a little scale. Looking at rendezvous antenna, just to say one...

No, thanks! Native scale is tricky enough! I'm really starting to consider upscaling as a valid alternative! o_O

Thanks Zathros, Cybergrinder and Tonino for your kind comments.

Fantastic. Great detail for such a little scale. Looking at rendezvous antenna, just to say one...

Tonino there are a lot of details that are a true challenge. See the VHF Antennas

Tonino, your UHU LM is a true masterpiece and I'd like to build it in the future. I started this model before the MASTER did his astounding model, but such a model is so different that build two LM is not build two copies of the same model.

I wasn't satisfied for the astronaut, too simple and crude. So i did some improvement. More graphics on the chest, on the back-pack, on the arms and legs, gloves and hands, shoes, pockets and tubes.

Here some pics.

This model literally and figuratively, stands on it's own. It's excellent!! :)

UHU's model is a piece of art by itself but you are doing things that I wouldn't think are possible!
That astronaut is incredible! Look at the pocket!!!! :jawdrop: Is your design? Wonderful! I'd like to add one like that to my LM!
And, by the way, what did you use for that VHF antennas? It's plastic or nylon thread? Or what else? Same for the rendez-vous antenna I suppose...

This is magnificent! What a great model, and the fact that you scaled it down and did a figure to go with it, is just mind boggling! Thanks for sharing these pics with us:)

Congratulations is a fantastic production. It's my favorite model among all spatial models and you did it as a small work of art

mcusanelli, RonaldoM, thanks for the kind comments.

Tonino
for the antennas I used a plastic wire that i found in a hobby store.
You can see it in the picture below. I also put, near the wire, the pin that I used for simulate the rounded helmet.
Yes the astronaut is a my original design, i can put here for free the pdf file. I don't know if there is a way to put the file in a post. You can PM to me your email addres, so I can share it with you,
Best, Nando :)

PS: ok i found the way to put the pdf in the post, i hope

You can upload the file to the "Resource" area, it's quite easy. Once you upload it, I will approve it. You can take one of the pictures from you post, , click on the image, copy and paste the URL into the box for showing a picture of the model. Take a look at it. The process is really easy. :)

Thanks zathros for the hints. I put my file in the "Resource" area as you suggested.
I hope i did everything right.
In the mean time my little LM is sitting between other models in a exhibition near my town, and I collected some appreciation there too.

Yes, you uploaded it perfectly. I really like the last picture you posted. Leaves room for more models, to keep telling the story it has started. :)

Well, in the end they wanted to reward me with the plate "the Best" in the category "paper models". A club of the contest organizers wanted to reward the model by creating a category not provided for in the competition: "real space".
I am very pleased with the comments that I have gathered among the various participants, but mostly because I think I've shown what you can do with paper, so uncommon in my country.

Best, Nando :):):):)

Many compliments Nando! It's always a good sensation to receive any kind of prize, you forced the organization to "create" a way to give you the right reward for your outstanding work! Great! :)

As you say paper modeling is not well known around here (plastic is always the main "matter" in all exhibitions) and it's a pity, considering the great enjoyment and skill involved in our wonderful hobby.

The results are very surprising for anyone who doesn't know what is possible with the use of "simple paper.." and I always like a lot when I show a finished model to a friend and ask: "guess what it's made of....?" :D
